Admission Requirements Tuition and Fees Program Structure

Currently not accepting new applications for the 2024/2025 program years. Keyano College's Early Learning and Child Care Certificate program gives you the skills and credentials needed to work in the child care field. Learn how to create child-centred play programs, give guidance through problem solving, and inspire learning. You'll gain practical experience with children and learn the best practices for child care at each stage of a child's development.

After you graduate, you'll be able to:

  • Support exploration through play
  • Observe and properly document a child's learning and behaviour
  • Foster creativity by actively engaging children in meaningful exploration
  • Create vibrant environments for children in a variety of child care settings

Applications for the certificate and diploma year 1 are accepted for Fall and Winter semesters. Please submit your application as soon as possible as many programs fill up quickly.

Admission requirements

High school diploma (or equivalent)

  • a minimum of 50% in English 30-1 or 65% in English 30-2.

 

Or Mature students (21 years or older on the first day of classes or have been out of school for at least three consecutive years)

And English Language Proficiency

  • TOEFL: iBT with a minimum score of 79 with no score below 19
  • IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0
  • CAEL with a minimum score of 60
  • MELAB with a minimum score of 80
  • Duolingo with a minimum score of 95
  • PTE (academic) with a minimum score of 50

Pre-Practicum Requirements

We will provide you with the forms for all requirements on Orientation Day for the academic year.

Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check

You must submit a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check on the first day of classes and apply no earlier than the second week of July

Child Care First Aid

You must complete Child Care First Aid before you begin your first practicum. You can often complete this during the first week of class. You are responsible for the cost associated with this training.

Have references available

We may ask you to provide three references, including their names, phone numbers and email addresses (no family members).

Learn about Robin's experience in the Childhood Studies program at Keyano College.

Your child care career potential

Our graduates are prepared to work as:

  • Early Childhood Educators in daycares, preschools or out of school care programs
  • Day Home Providers
  • Infant Child Development Workers
  • Family Resource Centre Workers

An introduction to the nature, value, and development of play in the lives of children is explored. The role
of the early childhood educator is emphasized. Building familiarity with different categories of play and
their importance in early childhood programs is highlighted. Observing, supporting, and extending play
will be practiced through group and individual experiences
