The participants learn fundamental medical knowledge while advancing their customer service, time management and computer skills.
Completing this certificate program empowers participants to perform medical office administrative duties, including maintaining accurate patient records while empathizing with dynamic patient needs.
Admission Requirements
Students must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in Keyano College Continuing Education courses.
There is no admission requirement/application process to start a non-credit certificate program.

Program Structure
Delivery Format: Blended Format - Virtual Livestream Online, Self-paced Online, In-Person
All course materials will be posted on the Keyano Learning Management System (iLearn.keyano.ca) before a course start.

Courses
Courses may be completed individually, or complete the seven required courses to achieve your Medical Office Assistant certificate.
NAIT - Medical Terminology (ITMS100) |
60 hours, $775 Self-Paced Online Learn correct medical terminology and understand relevant, related industry terms. Jargon specific lexicon, including basic word structure, suffixes, prefixes, and combined forms of medical terms, will be intensively studied for the duration of the course.
Note: There are four theory assessments. Students can complete these assessments at their own pace. *Biology 30 is recommended. |
NAIT - Orientation to Canadian Healthcare (IPHE101) |
32 Hours, $475 Self-Paced Online Study the ethics, rules and regulations of the Canadian healthcare system and practice effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals. Explore the rich history of the Canadian healthcare system and develop your cultural competence. Consider how professionals work together to improve the health of patients and what Canadian patients expect from healthcare providers. Expand your awareness of the provincial and federal governments' roles within the Canadian healthcare system. With the skills you gain in this course, you will begin to meet the needs of Canadian patients, safely and with confidence. Note: There is a final assessment for this course. Students coordinate the date and time with their facilitator. |
Office Procedures (CEMOA200) |
21 Hours, $495 This course explores introductory office procedures and protocol required to strengthen administrative support functions. Students will learn how to effectively accomplish practical administrative tasks such as meeting minute taking, event management, booking travel arrangements and filing while learning specific processes for each. |
Customer Service (CEMOA300) |
14 hours, $429 It is inevitable that the success or failure of any organization depends on customer service excellence. This course explores the fundamentals of customer service within the context of a competitive global business environment, including best practices of ethical customer service relations and cultural protocols. |
Time Management and Decision Making (CEMOA400) |
7 Hours, $329 This course is designed to help individuals that struggle with trying to improve their productivity and prioritize the tasks based on its nature. Time management is often a challenge, and we get overwhelmed with all our priorities and tasks. Furthermore, some of us procrastinate while others make quick decisions based purely on emotion. Let us learn to practice a clear approach to sharpen our analytical thinking, while recognizing and removing our emotional and personal biases. |
Basic Life Support (CEMOA500) |
The BLS for Healthcare Providers is a classroom course that is designed to teach a variety of healthcare professionals how to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, how to provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and how to relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. |
Microsoft 365 Word (CEMOA600) |
14 hours, $429 This course is intended to help all novice computer users get up to speed with Word quickly. We will cover different features of the interface, show users how to create a basic document, and introduce users to Word’s most important tools. By the end of this course, students should be comfortable with creating, saving, and sharing a new document. Students will also become familiar with using and customizing the Microsoft Word interface. |

Canada-Alberta Job Grant
The Canada-Alberta Job Grant provides funding to Alberta business to help hire and train employees. You can receive up to $10,000 per employee per year for skills training.
