Internationally Educated Nurse Preparation for Registered Nurses

Keyano College, in collaboration with other partner post-secondary institutions, is offering an exciting opportunity for any internationally educated nurse who wishes to bring their world of knowledge to the workforce in Canada and make the transition smoothly.

The Internationally Educated Nurse Preparation for Registered Nurses (IENRN) Program courses have been tailored to meet the unique needs and requirements of those seeking registration and work as a Registered Nurse in the province of Alberta. Internationally educated nurses learn what is necessary to successfully write and pass the national licensure examination and provide safe, competent and ethical practice in Alberta, Canada.

Basic Life Support

Price: $115*

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Blended Delivery course focuses on building knowledge so you are confident and ready to perform high-quality CPR in a wide variety of settings. The course covers chain of survival, 1-rescuer / 2-rescuer CPR, high-quality chest compressions with a feedback device, multi-rescuer team CPR, adult, child and infant CPR and relief of choking, use of an AED, effective ventilations using a barrier device and bag-mask device, opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies, maternal cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, drowning, heart attack and stroke and other life-threatening emergencies.
 
Blended learning combines the strengths of online learning and in-classroom training and is divided into two parts:
  • Part 1: Online: a self-paced, cognitive learning and assessment program with easy access to a rich array of resources, activities, learning videos, knowledge checks and an electronic exam. Once you have completed the first part of the program you will move on to the in-person portion. The online portion will take approximately 2 - 2.5 hours to complete.
  • Part 2: In-class: an instructor-led, classroom-based session where you will benefit from ample opportunity for hands-on skills practice, expert coaching, debriefing, team scenarios and comprehensive skills testing. The in-person portion will be 2 hours in length.

This course contains an approximate 2-hour self-paced online portion which must be completed before attending the 2-hour in person testing session.

Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C (Standard)

Previously known as Standard First Aid, in Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C you will learn skills for adult, child, and infant CPR, including methods for rescue breathing, as well as procedures to address choking, bleeding, wounds, shock, unconsciousness, head, spinal and pelvic injuries, secondary survey, multiple casualty management, chest injuries, rescue carries, heat/cold emergencies, eye injuries, burns, poisons, medical conditions, and administering EpiPens and metered dose inhalers. New protocol changes and AED certification are also instructed. Mental health awareness, opioid intervention and treatment will be reviewed as well.

Worker Wellness

We care about worker wellness in our community and as such are offering a growing stable of courses focused on this issue. Keyano College offers flexible, on demand training for companies, corporate clients, or groups of any size. Courses and workshops include; Critical Incident Stress Management, Shifting to Wellness, and UNB Pathways to Coping Online. Critical Incident Stress Management and Shifting to Wellness are only available for Corporate Training request. Critical Incident Stress Management
Critical Incident Stress Management teaches the emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioral symptoms  experienced after a critical incident that are normal stress reactions to abnormal events.  The core focus of CISM is the relief of distress symptoms for emotionally healthy people who have experienced traumatic events. These sessions help you understand the symptoms and provides the tools needed to get through it and mitigate any long term effects.
Shifting to Wellness
Working shiftwork can be challenging and sometimes difficult. Like any other problem we face, it is important to take a solution-focused approach. Healthy lifestyle choices will lessen any of the challenges of shiftwork. The goal of the Shifting to Wellness course is to develop practical strategies and take on a healthy lifestyle to meet the challenges of shiftwork.
UNB Pathways to Coping Online

The UNB Pathways to Coping online course is aimed at those who are frustrated, stressed, feeling hopeless or overwhelmed, or concerned about their mental health. You will learn how to develop skills and techniques to better cope with stress, improve your problem solving skills and find internal peace. We encourage anyone seeking new adaptive ways of coping, improving their relationships, and looking to get ahead personally and professionally to enroll.

We have partnered with the University of New Brunswick to deliver this program.
