Keyano College's Asset Planning and Management Certificate program can help you advance your career in the oil industry. If you're a skilled trades-person, the methods and tools taught in the program will help you make the most of resource productivity and craft utilization.

Admission requirements

To enroll in a Keyano College Continuing Education course, you must be 18 years of age or older.  A minimum of a high school diploma and relevant work experience is recommended; however, we encourage you to discuss your situation and needs with a program administrator.

Program Structure

Our Asset Planning and Management (APM) program progresses through all stages of asset management, from reliability strategies to maintenance supervisor and coordination.

All course materials will be posted on Moodle.  Please email Continuing Education or call 780-799-0535  if you don’t know your credential.

Required Textbook:  Maintenance Planning and Scheduling by Doc Palmer 4th edition.  Textbook can be purchased from Keyano Bookstore.

Courses

Courses may be completed individually, or complete the ten required courses to achieve your Asset Planning and Management certificate.  You must have completed APM 100 to 600 successfully before taking APM700.

Operations and Reliability Strategy - 14 hours, $495

The Operations and Reliability Strategy is a 14-hour module that teaches you the job approval process and how to manage equipment and assets in a team-based learning environment.

Asset Planning - 14 hours, $495

The Asset Planning is a 14-hour module that covers the basics of planning maintenance, defines planning processes, and explores job plan creation. Having Planners to monitor execution and get feedback is vital to the success of a project. You'll gain the practical skills that you'll need as a Planner through team-based exercises.

Asset Scheduling - 14 hours, $495

The Asset Scheduling is 14-hour module that focuses on managing a daily backlog and prioritizing activities economically. You'll learn how to maximize a schedule and debate schedule ownership. Gain strategies and ideas for running your own successful project schedule. The module's practical exercises allow you to hone these skills in a team-based environment.

Execution Coordination and Closure - 14 hours, $495

The Execution Coordination and Closure is a 14-hour module that will help you to identify and isolate problems through proven troubleshooting methodology. Gain the ability to process information to focus on the root cause of an issue. This is great skill that you can use to improve processes and solve reoccurring problems. The module defines the Execution Process and teaches you how urgent work can be done quickly.

Supply Chain - 14 hours, $495

Supply Chain is a 14-hour module that teaches you supply chain management and how you can optimize your inventory. You'll will learn how to get the right material, at the right place, and at the right time while ensuring that spare items are available for critical situations. You'll learn the costs related to maintenance inventory and discuss inventory management strategies.

Turnaround Planning - 14 hours, $495

Turnaround Planning is a 14-hour course where you'll learn how to manage a project and communicate effectively to your team about identifying and controlling shutdown risks. This module teaches intensive Planning and Scheduling techniques and lets you practice your skills in a team-based exercise.

Asset Project - 14 hours, $495

Asset Project (APM700) combines all core subjects in the Asset Planning and Management Certificate program in a cumulative real-world plant maintenance project.   You will express your full understanding of the overall process through a practical problem solving project.

You must have completed APM Modules 1 to 6 successfully before taking this module.

Instructor Biography  

Roger Davies

Following an education in Computer Technology, Roger joined the Electrical Engineering department at The Steel Company of Canada where he worked with the maintenance personnel in various production mills.

This practical experience led him into the second phase of his career of implementing computer-based process control systems for asset-intensive industries across North America. His focus was on SCADA, DCS and process instrumentation applications for heavy industry. This activity resulted in direct contact with engineering and maintenance personnel industry wide.

Throughout his career, constant exposure to industrial maintenance paved the way for a natural evolution into becoming a maintenance management specialist in the areas of best business practices and associated software tools. After working for a few companies that developed and implemented computerized maintenance management systems, (CMMS), Roger formed his own corporation, The Da-trol Group Inc., in 1987. Da-trol’s value added services all relate to optimizing company’s profitability through improved maintenance operations whether with policies and procedures, several software tools or consulting.

Aside from his Da-trol activities, Roger has also instructed many maintenance management courses through six Colleges in Ontario and Alberta for the past 15 years. He also develops curriculum to satisfy the specific needs of individual companies.

Planning and managing shutdowns, turnarounds and critical maintenance is a complex function.
This two day course provides attendees an overall theoretical perspective of the Turnaround Management. Participants will learn how to evaluate various dimensions of the Turnaround fundamentals and develop detailed execution job package.

Instructor Biography:

David Vlajic holds a Master of Business Administration and Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. Beginning in 2006, David has been employed with Syncrude Canada in various Leadership, Project and Turnaround Management positions. Throughout his Project and Turnaround career, he has been responsible for project budgets ranging from $100K to $250MM. David recognizes that PMI Project Management methodology has proven invaluable throughout his numerous projects from inception to closure. Although David recognizes such benefits, this is eclipsed by his awareness of Risk Management during the project life cycle given any unforeseen incident can prove disastrous to the project outcome.

 

Canada-Alberta Job Grant 

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant provides funding to Alberta business to help hire and train employees.
