This program provides students with general business fundamentals and the proficiency required to use the associated computer applications. Students will benefit from a comprehensive understanding of the skills necessary to be competitive in the dynamic global environment. Upon successful completion of this program, students are expected to manage administrative activities in a timely and professional manner

Admission Requirements

To enroll in a Keyano College Continuing Education course, you must be 18 years of age or older. A minimum of a high school diploma and relevant work experience is recommended; however, we encourage you to discuss your situation and needs with a program administrator.

Program Structure

Delivery Format: Blended Format - Virtual Livestream Online, Self-paced Online, Hy-Flex, and in-person.

Students will access the Keyano Learning Management System (iLearn.keyano.ca) for all course materials. This is designed to increase accessibility and flexibility within the program. Please email continuing@keyano.ca or call 780-799-0535  if you don’t know your credential.

Courses may be completed individually, or complete the seven required courses to achieve your Office Career Training certificate.  

Business Etiquette(CEOCT100)

7 Hours, $329

In Person

Students will learn the soft skills necessary to create, strengthen, and maintain a positive impression.
Regardless of workplace formalities, employees are required to be high self-monitors and conduct themselves accordingly. Students will learn how to effectively leverage their situational awareness skills to become effective organizational ambassadors. 

Office Procedures (CEOCT200) 

21 hours, $495 

Self-Paced Online

This course explores introductory office procedures and protocol required to strengthen administrative support functions. Students will learn how to effectively accomplish practical administrative tasks such as meeting minute taking, event management, booking travel arrangements, and filing while learning specific processes for each.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to respond to dynamic workplace requests in a timely and professional manner while completing office procedures necessary to support daily business activities. 

 

Critical Elements of Customer Service (CEPDCS100) 

14 hours, $375 

Virtual Livestream Online

While many companies promise to deliver an incredible customer experience, some are better at delivering than others. This two-day course is designed around six critical elements of customer service that, when the company lives them, bring customers back to experience service that outdoes the competition. Through activities, you will learn how to demonstrate a customer service approach, confidence and skill as a problem solver, understand how your own behavior affects the behavior of others, apply techniques to deal with difficult customers, and make a choice to provide customer service. 

Managing Priorities and Making Decisions (CESUPR102)

7 hours, $329 

Virtual Livestream Online

Balancing the needs and demands of a team with those of the organization can be challenging. Learn how to use critical thinking skills to problem-solve and make decisions. Explore techniques and strategies to improve your own productivity and ability to adapt to changing priorities and keep yourself and your team on track. Discover how to delegate and assign tasks effectively, run effective meetings, reduce time wasters, and manage the email jungle. 

Note: This course is eligible for credit in the Management & Supervision Certificate

Excel 2019 Level 1 (CEEXCEL01)

14 hours, $395

In-Person

Learn the foundational skills necessary to create and edit professional-looking spreadsheets. Topics include an introduction to Excel, constructing cell data, using formulas, functions, formatting worksheets, viewing and printing workbooks, charts, graphics; and analyzing, organizing and sharing workbooks.

Word 2019 Level 1 (CEWORD01)

14 hours, $395 

In-Person

Learn the fundamental skills necessary to create and format business documents such as letters, forms, and newsletters. Topics included creating a new document, manipulating text, formatting content, working with tabs, formatting documents, printing, using tables, working with illustrations, creating mass mailing documents, and sharing documents.

Outlook 2019 (CEOUTLK100)

14 hours, $395 

In-Person

This course teaches students how Outlook is structured and how to maximize its features for effective communication and collaboration. Topics include managing e-mail, using the calendar, working with contacts, using tasks and notes, and organizing information.

Instructor Biography

 Sandra Efu
Dr. Sandra Efu joined Keyano College in 2015 as faculty in the Business Department. Presently, she serves as Dean for the School of University Studies, Career Programs and Academic Upgrading. As a Project Management Professional, Sandra is passionate about using project management techniques to advance change. She has led an array of local and international projects in the areas of education and community development and worked with various International Financial Institutions, including the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank. Sandra has experience working in North America, the Caribbean and Africa, and these experiences reinforce Sandra’s commitment to the advancement of cultural exchanges and education as tools for global economic development. 

Research interests:

Economics of education, service learning for social good, teaching and learning in higher education, and program design, evaluation and enhancement

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant provides funding to Alberta business to help hire and train employees.
