Are  you a former registered nurse looking to refresh your skills? Or simply someone wanting to elevate your nursing knowledge? Look no further! Our Refresher program for Registered Nurses is designed for you.

The Refresher program is specifically designed for previously registered nurses in Canada who have been away from practice and are looking to re-enter or refresh on contemporary practices and those who require more extensive learning to support their transition to Canadian nursing practice.  It offers customized courses that cater to individual learning needs. Students engage in hands-on labs, simulations, and clinical experiences which enhance their critical thinking and clinical judgment. Additionally, the program allows students to explore the latest trends and challenges facing the Canadian nursing workforce. Through this comprehensive approach, they gain the essential knowledge and skills necessary to provide competent, safe, and ethical nursing care. 

 

Admission Requirements  

Current or former registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Canada
  • Complete a proctored online baseline exam set up by the nursing department, where prior nursing knowledge will be evaluated. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 80% on the exam.
    • If the above requirements are met, applicants will be asked to complete a pre-entry interview with the Chair, if selected.
Digital Literacy Requirements

Applicants must have a strong understanding of computer and technology tools to succeed in the program.

 

Specifically, applicants should:

  • Communicate effectively and conduct research.
  • Use a computer to browse the web and send emails.
  • Critically evaluate the impact of technology on behaviour.
  • Create and produce content while effectively communicating through email, media, and the internet.
Clinical Requirements

Once applicants have received admission to the program, students must present the following prior to commencing clinical:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS ) certification- Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
  • An up-to-date immunization record provided to Health Services.
  • N95 Respiratory Mask Fit testing.

 

Program Structure 

To graduate from the Refresher Nursing program, students must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.3, with no grade lower than C+ in any theory course, a passing grade in all lab and clinical courses, and a minimum 80% (A-) in CEIERN 109.

Students can choose to take the entire program or select individual courses based on their eligibility and needs.

Year 1 Term 3 (May-June)
CEIERN 109 Comprehensive Next Generation NCLEX Preparation for Exam Success
CEIERN 110 Transition to Practice

In addition CEIERN 111: Mastery Skills is delivered at any term based on the number of registrants.
