Health and Dental Benefits

Health and dental benefits are available for students through the Student Association of Keyano College (SAKC), in partnership with insurance provider Studentcare. Learn more about your eligibility, benefits, costs and more by expanding the sections below.

Eligibility

All full-time students, including international students, who are members of the SAKC in a program at least 16 weeks in duration are automatically enrolled in the SAKC Health and Dental Plan.

Full-time students are those taking at least 60% of a full course load. You must be enrolled full time in both Fall and Winter to have coverage for the full year. Otherwise, you are covered only for the semester in which you are enrolled.

Special circumstances apply to students in these departments:

  • Advanced Care Paramedic, Power Engineering and Process Operations students are covered for one year. Coverage is applied retroactively, starting on the first day of the month in which they begin classes.
  • Primary Care Paramedic and Health Care Aid students are covered for a six-month period.

Benefits

The SAKC Health and Dental Plan covers the following:

  • 80% of prescription drugs, up to $3,000 per policy year
  • $2,000 per policy year for services from health practitioners
  • $200 per policy year in vision care
  • $750 per policy year in dental care

Additional savings

You can receive additional coverage on your health and dental services by visiting health professionals who are members of the Studentcare network. Access the listing of providers.

Making changes to your coverage

You can make changes to your plan during the Change-of-Coverage Period. For programs starting in September, the period is from Sept. 5 – 19. For programs starting in January, the period is from Jan. 5 – 19. Visit Studentcare for full instructions.

Opting out

If you are covered by another health and/or dental plan (e.g., a parent or spouse's plan), you can combine both plans to maximize your overall coverage and reduce out-of-pocket costs. If you have equivalent coverage, you may also choose to opt out of the health plan, dental plan or both during the Change-of-Coverage Period.

Opting in, or adding a spouse or dependent

You can also enroll yourself, your spouse and/or your dependent children in the plan during the Change-of-Coverage Period.
