Biography

Sarah Schmidt is the Chair of Library Services and the Research and Instruction Librarian at Keyano College Library. In this role, she works with students and faculty to navigate the world of research and build upon their information and digital literacies. Sarah works one-on-one and facilitates workshops and classes to students and faculty throughout the year. Sarah is also the liaison librarian for Business, Childhood Studies, Education, History, Nursing, and Social Work. She has worked at Keyano since 2016 as a librarian and has been active in her involvement of Keyano’s Faculty Association and the broader academic library community. 

Sarah’s professional experience has been in academic and public libraries in Alberta and Ontario.

Sarah’s research interests include critical digital and information literacies, adult learners, and the scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education.

Biography

Kathleen Brennan joined Keyano College in 2018 and is currently working in the Library as the Library Access Technician. She completed the Library and Information Technician Diploma and the Office Administration Certificate programs through Algonquin College in Ottawa.

Kathleen has over twelve years of experience working in a variety of different libraries including, Public, School, and Post-Secondary.

Biography

As the Reference Librarian, Melanie supports students in developing the information literacy and research skills necessary for confidently navigating an evolving information landscape. She provides one-on-one research consultations for students and faculty, and facilitates classroom-based research skills instruction throughout the year.

Melanie is the liaison librarian for English, Social Studies (upgrading), Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, and Philosophy. She is also the library’s point of contact for copyright and Open Educational Resources (OER) inquiries.

Melanie’s research interests include nontraditional learners, critical information literacy, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

Biography

Cecilia is the newest team member and joined Keyano in fall 2023 as Circulation Technician. As the Circ Tech, Cecilia is responsible for circulation services at the front desk, in-person, virtual (chat), and email reference interviews/questions, locating requested resource materials, helping patrons with library catalogue and database searches, and instructing library patrons in the use of the various library resources.

Cecilia graduated from Mohawk College in Ontario with her diploma in Library and Information Technician, and her professional work experience includes working for the past several years within various Catholic and Public Elementary School Boards as a School Librarian.

Biography

As the Technology & Online Learning Librarian, Kelly helps students navigate the technology necessary for academic success. Kelly works one-on-one with students and conducts a variety of workshops throughout the year (e.g., Moodle, computer basics, Microsoft 365, password management). Kelly is also the liaison librarian for the sciences, math, and trades.

Kelly’s research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning with publications on metacognition and achievement goals. She also considers diversity in children’s literature with publications considering the portrayal of mental illness in young adult fiction.

Biography

Linda came to work at the Keyano Library in 2018 and has over 16 years of experience working in libraries in support of research and learning. She is responsible for the cataloguing and maintenance of print and digital resources, ensuring that library resources are organized, easy to locate, and accurate. She also provides reference and circulation support for patrons of the Keyano Library.

Linda is the library contact for information about digital resources, including access to resources, subscriptions, and licensing and is the contact for the NEOS Technical Services Committee.
