Keyano Huskies men’s basketball head coach Jeremy Wielenga will be joining the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) as an assistant coach with the Saskatchewan Rattlers. The upstart league is entering its third season and features professional basketball players from Canada and the United States who have succeeded at the highest level of amateur basketball including starting for major division one teams in the NCAA.

Wielenga received the invite when he was approached by the Rattlers head coach, Chad Jacobson who is also the lead assistant coach with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men’s basketball team.  Wielenga said, “It’s an exciting opportunity to learn and grow as a coach, especially when you’ll be surrounded by the type of players and coaches that we’ll have.  I’m also excited to be able to bring back more knowledge to our players at Keyano College. It is a priceless learning experience and should be great for our program, recruiting, and what we’ll be able to offer here.”

The CEBL is a seven-team league across the country that is modeled after successful international leagues.  The new season begins in the CEBL on June 5.

Wielenga has been the head coach at Keyano College since 2017 and has led the team to the most wins in program history sporting a 53-19 regular-season record.  He was also named ACAC North coach of the year in 2019-2020.
