We offer a variety of testing services to Keyano students, non-Keyano students, external organizations and institutions at our Testing Centre located in the Bob Lamb Building, Main floor - Room BL152.  We are approved Test administrator for several paper based and online exams for professional accreditations and certifications.

Exam Proctoring

Registered Keyano College students can write a supervised exam outside of the regular class schedule if one or more of these situations applies:

  • You missed an exam and have approval from the instructor
  • You have an accommodation through Accessibility Services
  • You are taking an exam from another institution
  • You are taking an approved deferred, supplemental or challenge exam

Scheduling Exams

Exams with Accommodations

Students should meet with Accessibility Services at the beginning of each academic term to determine eligibility for exam accommodations.

You must book exams at least three days before the writing date. Book at least seven days in advance to ensure the appropriate resources (e.g., reader, scribe, alternate format) are available.

 A quick guide to booking an accommodated exam
  1. Click on “Book Now”
  2. New Users must create an account.
  3. Record your user name and password for future appointments
  4. Select Test Taker Type as "Internal Student"
  5. Select Add-on Services as "Accommodated Exam"
  6. Select Schedule (Room) as "Accommodation Room" 
  7. Select your preferred date and time slot.
  8. Fill in the remaining fields about the exam.
  9. In the Special Instructions box, fill in the accommodations you will need for the exam.
  10. Submit to finalize your appointment.
  11. If the preferred date is unavailable(greyed), send an email with the exam information and preferred date and time

Booking an exam for registered Keyano Students

Use the online booking system to schedule your exam. Contact us by email, if you have issues with booking.

You must book exams at least three days before the writing date. Please ensure you are aware of the dates and times of the course exam when booking your session. Confirm the date and exam start time with your instructor, before booking.

If there is a fee to write the exam, you must provide proof of payment (if applicable) to Testing Services before writing.

Booking an exam for non-Keyano Students

Students must follow institution guidelines to schedule exams.  

Send your institutions exam consent form, if required, to Testing Services by email.

Proctoring times

Exam proctoring sessions are available from Monday to Friday during these times:

  • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Exam proctoring is not available on statutory holidays or weekends. Additional sessions can be added if required.  We extend proctoring times during final exams.

Cost for Non Keyano Student 

The sitting fee for each proctoring session (limited to four hours) is $125 plus GST. This includes the cost of sending written exams by regular mail, email or fax.

You can pay the fee at the Office of the Registrar or by calling them on number 780-791-4801.

Any courier charges will be the responsibility of the test taker or receiving institution.

If you need a quiet space and or computer to write an exam without supervision, because of constraints writing at home, you can email us with necessary information. Based on availability, we will confirm the booking. The fee will be $25+GST for an exam up to four hours and can be paid on arrival.

Writing a proctored exam

Please read and follow these instructions when writing a supervised exam:

  • Arrive 15 minutes early and be ready to start the exam at the scheduled time. Start and stop times for exams will be strictly followed. Students who arrive late will not be permitted to start the exam and will need to have instructor approval to reschedule.
  • Bring a government-issued ID for identification purposes.
  • Before the exam start time, place all personal belongings in a locker. Locks will be provided by Testing Services. Only materials listed on the Exam Supervision Request Form will be allowed in the exam room. Exceptions are allowed only with written authorization from the instructor.
  • Food or drinks are not allowed in the exam room. Clear water bottles without labels can be taken in.
  • Hats, jackets and hoodies are not allowed.
  • Any dishonesty or cheating by a student will be subject to the disciplinary processes outlined in Keyano College's Student Rights and Responsibilities policy.
  • During the exam, you must remain in the exam room and leave only with the permission of the exam invigilator. All breaks will be recorded and provided to the instructor. If you leave the exam room without permission, the invigilator may end the session and return the exam to the instructor. Breaks will not extend exam time.
  • You cannot leave the exam within the first 30 minutes.
  • For non-Keyano exams, you will follow the exam procedures and policies of your institution.

Cancelling an exam

If you are unable to attend a scheduled exam, you should notify the course instructor and cancel the appointment by contacting Testing Services at 780-838-3847 or send an email. You must get instructor approval to reschedule an exam.

If you miss a scheduled exam time and do not notify Testing Services in advance, you cannot reschedule until you have permission from the course instructor and have paid the $25 “no show” fee.

Non-Keyano students may request for refunds on cancellations, five working days prior to exam booking. A $25.00 administration charge will not be refunded. For cancellations dated less than five working days prior to booking date, no refunds will be granted. In exceptional circumstances, the Coordinator or Manager of the program may overrule this policy. Notify Testing Services by sending an email for any cancellations and rescheduling to Testing Services.

Information for Keyano instructors

Instructors are responsible for tests, exams and quizzes requiring less than one hour of invigilation. Longer exams can be proctored by Testing Services.

Scheduling an exam

When a student schedules a proctored exam, you will receive an email notification. Please complete the Exam Supervision Request Form provided by Testing Services. Indicate which materials, devices and resources are permitted during the exam. You will also need to provide a contact number or alternate contact should the student require assistance during the exam.

Exam delivery and pickup

Please ensure exams are delivered to Testing Services in person or by email a minimum of two days before the scheduled exam. Late delivery of exams may require the student to reschedule.

Print exams should be dropped off at Testing Services in Bob Lamb Building. You must also provide any reference material that students are permitted to use during the exam (e.g., code books, ABSA regulations, OH&S Guidelines, Safety Codes Act of Alberta, etc.).

Instructors should pick up completed exams within 24 hours of writing.

External exams

We are approved to proctor exams for several post-secondary institutions like Athabasca University, ADLC, Vista Virtual School, NAIT, SAIT and more.

We are approved to administer written or online exams for professional accreditations and certifications. We have listed a few of them below. Some of the exams are scheduled by the organizations or by test takers through their websites. A few of them need the test takers to register with their institutions before scheduling through us.

  • CWB paper exams for welders/ inspectors/ supervisors
  • Security exams: ABST, AIT
  • Finance: IFSE, CIFP
  • Pearson VUE exams for: BCRSP, PMI, BOMI, NETA and GED
  • Meazure Learning /Yardstick : various exams listed on their portal
  • PSI exams for: Water and Wastewater treatment, collection and distribution
