Admission Requirements Tuition and Fees Program Structure

 Learn how you can play a key role in breaking down the barriers of learning through Keyano College's Educational Assistant Certificate program. Attending school can be a great adventure for many students, but for some it can be a difficult experience. This hands-on program will prepare you to support all students including those with learning challenges and special needs in school environments and community settings.

  • Learn and develop strategies for guiding behavior
  • Apply and understand strategic adaptation and accountability
  • Understand specific disabilities and how they impact children's learning and development
  • Support curriculum in language learning , literacy, reading and numeracy
  • Observe and analyze social, cognitive and moral development

Admission requirements

High school diploma (or equivalent)

You must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% in English 30-1 or 65% in English 30-2.

Mature students (Have been out of school for at least three consecutive years, or are at least 21 years of age by the first day of class)

  • a minimum of 50% in English 30-1 or
  • a minimum of 65% in English 30-2 or
  • receiving a pass mark on the College Entrance Test

English Language Proficiency

  • TOEFL: iBT with a minimum score of 79 with no score below 19
  • IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0
  • CAEL with a minimum score of 60
  • MELAB with a minimum score of 80

Pre-Practicum Requirements

We will provide you with the forms for all requirements on Orientation Day for the academic year.

Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check

You must submit a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check on the first day of classes and apply no earlier than the second week of July.

Child Care First Aid

You must complete Child Care First Aid before you begin your first practicum. You can often complete this during the first week of class. You are responsible for the cost associated with this training.

Please note, these estimates are based on 100% enrollment for all semesters and do not include mandatory laboratory fees. Laboratory fees can range from $24 - $107.

Program structure

The Educational Assistant Certificate program is available full-time or part-time through a combination of evening and day classes and online study. Additionally, we offer a collaborative online program with Medicine Hat College and Red Deer College. If the collaborative online program is what you are interested in pursuing, please see a student advisor as it requires significant advanced planning.

Please be advised of the following changes for the Fall 2020/21 semester:

  • Theory courses will be delivered online
  • Face-to-face learning experiences are required for specific courses and clinical practice education experiences
  • The Winter 2020/21 semester delivery, and subsequent semesters, will be re-evaluated and may be delivered in a similar format
