Keyano delaying Spring Semester start until May 11

Posted On Monday May 04, 2020

Keyano College will launch its spring semester on May 11. The week delay will give College teams more time to reestablish critical IT infrastructure in the wake of floods that affected downtown Fort McMurray.

This delay is short largely due to the efforts of the College’s IT and Facilities teams. Before evacuating the Main College campuses on April 27, staff shut down power to the downtown campus and moved IT servers to the Suncor Energy Industrial Centre to ensure operations at the College could continue.

While the main Clearwater Campus received minimal damage as result of the flood, it will require clean up, sanitization, and a full review of all systems. As such, the College has also delayed the opening of registration for its fall semester until a later date.

Access to all downtown College facilities remains restricted for the safety of the public. A preliminary assessment conducted on May 2 found varying levels of damage to college buildings and facilities, from minimal to catastrophic.

In a statement, College President and CEO Trent Keough, thanked all involved College teams, as well as volunteers, government and community organizations involved in the recovery effort.
