Differential Aptitude Test (DAT)

Please note: All  DAT sessions are temporarily suspended , till we finalize the online version of the test. 

We offer the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT). The DAT is a tool that measures your abilities and skills, such as verbal and abstract reasoning, numerical ability,  abstract reasoning, mechanical reasoning, space relations, spelling and language use. The DAT is made up of several timed tests.

The DAT is used with adults looking at a wide range of career and planning options, including some industrial firms.

Admission requirements

You would register for the DAT if your chosen program requires it as a prerequisite.


The cost to take the DAT is $125.00 plus GST.

The cost to write the DAT Out of Town  is $150.00 plus GST.


You can choose to:

  • Call 780-792-2688 to register
  • Register in-person at the Office of the Registrar (8115 Franklin Ave., Fort McMurray)

Out-of-town registration

If you are from outside the Fort McMurray area, you can book an out-of-town DAT exam by following these steps:

  1. Contact our offices and submit your registration fee.
  2. Contact a college or university testing centre in your area and arrange for a supervisor to manage a seven-section, timed paper-based DAT test. The supervisor must not be a friend, relative or co-worker.
  3. You and the supervisor must complete the Out-of-Town DAT Exam Form and you must email .
  4. We will send the DAT package to your chosen college or university.
  5. Take the DAT test at the time you arranged with your local college or university.
  6. The test is sent back to Keyano College after you complete it. You are responsible for any fees associated with its transport to Keyano College and fees charged by your local college or university.
  7. We mark your test and mail you your results in a sealed envelope.

We are replacing the paper version of the exam with an online one. Once it is finalized , we will put up the schedule.

We offer tutoring services for those looking for help before taking the test. You will receive one-on-one, focused attention around the testing area of your choice. A tutoring session lasts five hours and can be broken up into different segments. Our tutors work around your schedule and are very flexible.
