Keyano College is expanding its capacity to offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Primary Care Paramedic programs starting this Fall.  Over 1.1 million dollars is being invested by the Government of Alberta for the targeted enrolment expansion initiative, which will see 93 new seats added to Keyano’s health care training programs.

Keyano will add 48 new Bachelor of Science in Nursing program  seats. Offered collaboratively with the University of Alberta, the four-year program gives students the most comprehensive training possible to prepare them for a career in nursing.

Keyano’s 20-week Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) certification program will see a 45-seat expansion. The PCP program gives students the skills to provide primary, pre-hospital emergency care to patients.

“Keyano College is thrilled that the healthcare needs of our region have been acknowledged with this investment,” said Jay Notay, President and CEO of Keyano College.

The seat expansion is part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to address staffing needs and build a more robust healthcare system for Alberta. This investment will help ensure that Wood Buffalo students can access the skills and training they need close to home.

“This funding will specifically target local, domestic students,” said Arlene Starkes, Dean of the School of Health & Human Services at Keyano College. “The goal is to increase programming to those in rural, remote communities via alternate delivery options.”
