Keyano College is set to offer a two-year Business Administration diploma with a specialization in Esports Management starting this Fall. Esports is the rapidly growing industry of competitive video gaming at an organized level that has gained worldwide acclaim with highly dedicated audiences. Graduates will leave the College with a foundation of what it will take to be successful in Esports Management and turn a passion for video gaming into a viable career. This means that they will learn team and league administration or coaching; marketing, sponsorship, and promotion; event and facility management; media, production, and content management.

Dr. Vincella Thompson, Dean, School of University Studies, Career Programs and Academic Upgrading said, “According to data from the Canadian Gaming Association, the Esports industry directly supports more than 135,000 full-time jobs across the country and generates almost $9 billion each year. Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities also reported that digital and game design have had a huge growth of 25.7%. Keyano College is keenly aware of the opportunity for students wanting to enter into the arena of competitive video gaming on a professional level. We are prepared to teach them what they will need to know to succeed and thrive in this industry.”

The program will consist of 10 Esports courses including a work-integrated learning component as well as courses in the Business Administration diploma. Teaching will include traditional face-to-face, blended learning, and online models. Theoretical Esports courses will be offered like other business courses while students can also engage in Esports-related activities outside regularly scheduled class time. Students will learn and apply their skills in a state-of-the-art video gaming lab.

The program at Keyano College will equip graduates with not only the skills they need to be competitive in the Esports arena but the business management skills to allow them to find a career in all other areas of Esports too.
