Keyano College Offers Ukrainian Students Domestic Tuition
Keyano College will continue supporting students who have fled the war in Ukraine. As of this year, Ukrainian students enrolled at Keyano College on a valid Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) visa and study permit will pay domestic tuition rates instead of international rates throughout their post-secondary studies.
The CUAET is a program the Government of Canada introduced to support Ukrainians. It offers Ukrainians free, extended temporary status, where they can work, study, and reside in Canada until it is safe to return home.
Students under the CUAET program can begin their studies once they have received a valid study permit. Approved study permits under the CUAET are valid for up to 3 years, giving students adequate time to complete their program from start to finish. There is no application fee to apply for a study permit or biometric enrollment. Furthermore, upon graduation, students could be eligible for permanent residency under specific provincial and federal immigration programs.
Laura Herweck, Manager of Enrollment Services at Keyano College, says funding under the CUAET minimizes international students’ financial barriers in Alberta. “I believe that offering Ukrainian students domestic tuition is a transformative step towards their integration and educational development. This program reinforces our values of solidarity and inclusion, and we hope to provide some stability during uncertain times,” says Herweck.
Students must submit all required documentation to the registrar’s office to qualify for the international fee exemption.
