It was a night of celebration as more than 250 students received over $450,000 worth of awards, bursaries and scholarships at the 2019 Keyano College Student Awards on Tuesday, November 26.

Students received awards totaling $140,000 more than last year, breaking all previous records.  Funds were raised from the Keyano Gala, from College Alumni, and through the generous support of 122 individual and corporate donors.

Every year, an award donor is highlighted during the ceremony. This year, Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. was recognized. Allan Jansen, general manager for field services, noted their business depends on Keyano College as an important recruitment source.

President of the Student Association of Keyano College, Tyshaine Page; who was in Edmonton advocating for student rights, provided a video message highlighting the importance of donors and noting some of the issues impacting education such as student poverty.

Keyano College President and CEO, Trent Keough said, “At Keyano College, we measure our success by the success of our students. Through these awards, we hope that we can remove barriers to students’ education and put them in a position to succeed.”
