Keyano College’s Board of Governors announces new Chair and members

Keyano College is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Board Chair, Donald (Don) Scott. Scott is a passionate life-long learner, education advocate, former Alberta Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education, and former Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Scott, who will assume the Chair role on April 22, 2023, looks forward to working with the Keyano College Board of Governors as they deliver excellence in education to students from around the region.

“I want to thank the Honourable Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta, the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, Government of Alberta Minister of Advanced Education, the Honourable Brian Jean, Government of Alberta Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development and Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche MLA, and Tany Yao, Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo MLA, for my appointment to the Keyano College Board. I deeply appreciate their support and faith in my ability to serve,” said Scott.

Joe MacNeil is finishing his term as Chair as of April 22, 2023; however, he will continue to serve on the Board of Governors as a public member until September 15, 2025. 

“I would like to personally thank Joe for his support, work, and dedication to the College. We are thankful for Joe’s leadership in guiding the launch of Keyano College’s Strategic Plan in November 2022,” says Jay Notay, President & CEO of Keyano College.  

Keyano College also recently welcomed the appointments of Andrew Rosser, Senior Vice President of Operations at Syncrude, and Kalpesh Patel, Director Regional NPA Technical & Reliability at Suncor, as Public Members with the Board of Governors. The College also welcomes Raymond Powder, Fort McKay First Nation Chief, who was appointed to the Board as a public representative effective March 29th, 2023. Adele Thompson’s appointment as a public Board member was also extended. 

Appointments to the Board of Governors are made by the Minister of Advanced Education and the people of Alberta as set out by the Alberta Post-Secondary Learning Act.
