Keyano College creating safe spaces for marginalized communities

The Keyano College Student Life Department strives to develop initiatives framed in valuing our diverse campus population and foster opportunities for overall equity and inclusion. We are happy to announce the launch of the Keyano College Caucuses.  Caucuses are open, safe, equitable, and inclusive spaces for marginalized voices at Keyano College. Caucuses fostering an appreciation of diversity through solidarity and allyship, and political, social, and cultural unity. Caucuses are a space to raise awareness around key societal issues, while finding solutions and organizing to provide overall improvement of the lives of marginalized voices at Keyano College. Caucuses are open to all students, faculty, and staff and community members.

“We are very excited to be providing the college community new avenues to share experiences and provide peer support”, said Frederick Russell, VP, Academics.  “This is one of many initiatives that Keyano College has pursued to ensure that inclusivity is a big part of the Keyano experience.” 

Current standing caucuses are as follows:

Keyano College Queer Caucus:  a safe and open organization for students, faculty, staff, and community members that identify as LGBTQ2S+.

Keyano College International Caucus: a safe and open organization for students, faculty, staff, and community members that identify as an International Student, Permanent Resident, Refugee or a Canadian Citizen not born and raised in Canada.

Keyano College Indigenous Caucus:  a safe and open organization for students, faculty, staff, and community members that identify Inuit, Métis, First Nations or an Aboriginal person from outside of Canada.
