Keyano and Women Building Futures provide skills training for women in Wood Buffalo

Keyano College and Women Building Futures have partnered for 2020-2021 to bring more skills training to women in Wood Buffalo.

Two new programs will be offered at Keyano College’s Suncor Energy Industrial Campus: Driver & Operator Training, which prepares students to obtain a Class 3 license and operate equipment such as hydrovacs & snow ploughs; and the Journeywoman Start program, which provides introductory training to various construction trades.

Both programs include classroom and hands-on learning that provide students with the skills required by industry employers in the region and improve their employability potential.

“We look forward to working with Women Building Futures to provide this unique training opportunity,” said Bertha Fairley, Dean of Continuing Education. “This excellent initiative not only allows women to live, train, and work in the region but also provides them with the skills they need to excel in a new career.” 

“We’re excited to expand these training programs to the Fort McMurray region,” shares Jess Thomson, Director Stakeholder & Government Relations. “We’ve seen great success with these programs in the Edmonton area and we look forward to bringing these programs to the community.”
