ACAC Announcement on 2020-21 Athletics Season

Posted On Monday June 29, 2020

On June 19, The Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) announced that due to the ongoing restrictions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fall 2020 athletics season has been cancelled.

Keyano College is in support of the decision announced by the ACAC to suspend athletics for the fall and feel that the health and wellbeing of our student athletes, coaches, staff, and fans takes top priority.

No final decisions have been made by the ACAC regarding the winter semester of the 2020-21 athletic season. However Keyano College does anticipate team training and exhibition play to occur between October and December 2020. As well, the College is anticipating a January 2021 start for ACAC regular season play for our volleyball, basketball, and futsal teams. Soccer has been deferred until the 2021 spring semester.

Timelines will be based on guidelines set out by the ACAC, Alberta Health Services and the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

“The cancellation of the fall 2020 is a disappointment to the Huskies athletes, coaches, and the College community, but our focus remains the wellbeing of everyone involved”, says Jonathan Lambert, Director of Athletics, Sport and Student Wellness.

Our Huskies Athletics Program is a vital part of our College and the community at large. We look forward to the day when our teams are playing and the fans are enjoying the experience again.
