Keyano College welcomes federal and financial leaders for regional workforce discussions
Fort McMurray, AB

Keyano College is proud to welcome federal leadership and national financial partners to campus for important discussions focused on strengthening the regional workforce and economy through skills training.
On May 20, Keyano hosted The Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada, and Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, for a roundtable with industry and community stakeholders. The discussion provided an opportunity to share local perspectives on workforce needs, economic resilience, and regional priorities.
Minister Olszewski was joined by Assistant Deputy Minister Michelle Evans, who also toured Keyano’s industrial campus in Gregoire. The visit highlighted the college’s hands-on training capacity and its role in supporting the region through responsive, industry-aligned programming.
On June 16, Keyano welcomed Toni Gravelle, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, and Farrukh Suvankulov, Regional Director, for a meeting with college representatives. The discussion focused on regional labour market demands and training in the trades, health, and education sectors. It highlighted the importance of aligning with current needs and future priorities, as well as supporting Indigenous learners in that effort.
“Keyano College is committed to serving this region and responding to its evolving workforce needs,” said Dr. Scott MacPherson, President and Chief Executive Officer. “These discussions reinforce the importance of ensuring our training aligns with what industry needs today and what will be required in the years ahead.”
These visits reflect Keyano’s role as a regional steward, connecting government, industry, and education to ensure the college continues to meet the community’s needs through relevant, forward-looking training.
