International Student Requirements

International students may register in Continuing Education and Extended Studies (non-credit) courses, subject to Canadian Immigration requirements.

Non-Credit Programs Under 6 Months

  • A study permit is not required.
  • Students must hold valid status in Canada (e.g., visitor or work permit).

Non-Credit Programs Over 6 months

  • International students may register in a non-credit program that is longer than 6 months if they already hold a valid study permit.
  • However, a study permit cannot be obtained for the purpose of attending only a Continuing Education and Extended Studies non-credit program that is longer than 6 months.
  • Students who require a study permit to come to Canada must be enrolled in an eligible credit program that meets study permit requirements. They may also register in a Continuing Education and Extended Studies non-credit program while studying in Canada, provided they continue to meet all immigration requirements.

Student responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all Canadian immigration requirements.
  • Maintain valid status in Canada for the full duration of studies.
  • Confirm that their immigration status and study permit conditions allow them to participate in their chosen program.
