Launch a career in mining and heavy construction with the Haul Truck Operator Program at Keyano College. This 4-week, in-person program combines classroom instruction, computer-based learning, and simulated operator training to help you build the skills and confidence needed to operate haul trucks safely and professionally in real-world environments.

Haul trucks are large, heavy-duty vehicles used in mining and construction to transport massive loads of earth, rock, ore, and other materials. As a critical part of mining operations, these trucks require skilled, safety-focused operators who can work effectively in demanding industrial settings. This program prepares students for entry-level opportunities with leading employers in the mining and heavy equipment industries.

Haul Truck Operator Mine Operations Labourer Industrial Equipment Operator

Graduates may find employment in industries such as mining, oil sands, energy, and heavy construction.

A student operates a heavy equipment simulator using a steering wheel and digital controls.

Program Details

Be at least 18 years of age by the course start date.
Satisfy at least one of the following educational or work experience criteria:

High school diploma (International credentials must be assessed as equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma)
General Education Development (GED) or Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC)
Minimum 10 years of work experience

Provide a valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s licence (not GDL)
Provide a Driver’s Abstract (no suspensions, no more than two violations in the past 3 years)
Provide a successful Physical Demands Assessment (PDA) completed with DriverCheck. (Booking details will be emailed after we receive your application)

English Language Proficiency Requirement:

Meet at least one of the following requirements:

CLBPT - minimum score of 6
CAEL - minimum score of 60
IELTS - minimum score of 6.5 (min 5.5 per band)
TOELF iBT - minimum score of 71 (min 17 per section)
Duolingo - minimum score of 95
PTE (academic) - minimum score of 50

Please note

A non-refundable application fee of $54 will be required for all applicants to the Haul Truck Operator program. Please review admission requirements before submitting your application. Fees will not be refunded even if applicants do not meet eligibility requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a driver’s licence?

Yes. You must have a valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s licence (non-GDL) and provide a Driver’s Abstract that meets the program requirements.

Is the program hands-on?

Yes. The program combines classroom instruction, computer-based learning, and simulator-based training to develop practical haul truck operating skills.

What safety gear do I need?

You must provide your own required PPE, including CSA-approved steel-toed safety boots.

Do I need to complete a Physical Demands Assessment?

Yes. Applicants must successfully complete a Physical Demands Assessment (PDA). Booking information is provided after the application is received.
