Language Instruction for Newcomers
to Canada (LINC)

The Language Support for Newcomers for Childcare Level 1 (LESC:L1) Program is designed to help newcomers improve their English proficiency while gaining the foundational skills needed to work in early childhood education settings.

Led by Francophonie Albertaine Plurielle (FRAP) in the Wood Buffalo Region, in collaboration with Keyano College, this no-cost program combines classroom-based language training with hands-on employment support to help participants transition into Alberta’s childcare workforce.

Frequently Asked Questions

LINC is open to Permanent Residents, Convention Refugees, and Protected Persons aged 18 or older, who are living in Alberta.

The program is completely free for eligible participants.

LINC is currently delivered in-person at Keyano College, with an online option available for CLB 4 students.

Yes. Completion of Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC) 4 may be accepted as proof of language proficiency for your citizenship application.

Yes. A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) assessment will determine your Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC) level.

Graduates may continue to other educational opportunities such as Community Adult Learning Program (CALP), Academic Foundations, or begin post-secondary programs and job training.
