High School Equivalency Diploma

To complete a High School Equivalency Diploma, students may take one or more College Preparation courses in the same semester or in different semesters, in any order, so long as they have the course prerequisites. 

High School Equivalency Diploma

To earn your High School Equivalency diploma, you must:

• Achieve a minimum GPA of 1.7 (60%) 
• Complete English 30-1 or 30-2 
• Complete at least one science course* 
• Complete at least one mathematics course* 
• Complete at least one social studies course* 

*at least two courses must be at the 30-level

Advanced High School Equivalency Diploma

To earn your Advanced High School Equivalency diploma, you must:

• Achieve a minimum GPA of 1.7 (60%) 
• Complete English 30-1 
• Complete Math 30-1 
• Complete Social Studies 30-1 
• Complete either: 
• Two science courses (Biology 30, Chemistry 30, or Physics 30), or 
• Calculus (Math 031) plus one science course (Biology 30, Chemistry 30, or Physics 30) 

For either diploma, credit may be granted for high school level courses completed elsewhere; however, a minimum of four (4) of the prescribed College Preparation courses must be completed at Keyano College.

• These estimates are based on 100% enrolment for all semesters and do not include mandatory laboratory fees. Laboratory fees can range from $35-$135.
• *Students will be charged a medical/dental benefit fee unless they opt out by demonstrating alternative coverage - deadlines can be found at StudentCare website.
  ** Tuition is due 10 business days before the start of each semester.

You may be eligible for Alberta’s Foundational Learning Assistance Program, which helps cover tuition and living expenses.

Steps to apply:

1. Apply and be accepted into the program
2. Request Keyano to confirm your enrollment
3. Create a verified MyAlberta Digital ID
4. Watch for an email from: foundational.learning.assistance@gov.ab.ca
5. Submit your application at least 8 weeks before the term begins
