The General Science Certificate Program at Keyano College provides a foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and environmental sciences. In this program, you'll build the knowledge and skills needed for further study or careers in science-related fields.

If you plan to continue your education, you can choose courses that align with junior Bachelor of Science (BSc) requirements at the University of Alberta and other Alberta post-secondary institutions. You can also take an optional Work-Integrated Learning course in the Spring term to gain experience in a workplace related to your studies.

The General Science Certificate provides a strong foundation for further studies in science, health, and related disciplines. Graduates develop analytical thinking, research skills, and quantitative reasoning that support continued education and a variety of science-related career pathways. Possible pathways include:

Many students use the certificate as a pathway to further education, transferring into Bachelor of Science programs at partner institutions and pursuing areas of specialization such as Environmental Science, Biology, Health Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering.

High School Diploma (or equivalent):

You must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) with minimum average of 60% with no mark below 50% in:

  • English 30-1
  • Math 30-1
  • Two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, Mathematics 31
  • One Additional Subject from Group A or B or C

Mature Students (21+):

Must be 21 years of age by the first day of classes, and have a minimum average of 60% with no mark below 50% in:

  • English 30-1
  • Math 30-1
  • Two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, Mathematics 31

English Language Proficiency (if applicable):

  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 86 with no score below 21
  • IELTS Academic: minimum overall band score of 6.5 no score below 5.0
  • CAEL: minimum score of 70
  • MELAB: minimum score of 85
  • Duolingo: minimum score of 115
  • PTE (Academic): minimum score of 58

Students have the option to complete WIL 100, a 3-credit Work Integrated Learning course in the Spring term. Through this placement, students can gain practical experience in a workplace setting while building skills and connections relevant to their future studies and careers.
