The Environmental Technology program focuses on the environmental issues, problems and solutions that are associated with the natural resource industries of northern Alberta. This is a two-year diploma which develops the skills required for environmental positions with industry and government. The curriculum includes the necessary chemistry, biology and mathematics as it relates to the environment as well as environmental technology courses. Graduates from this program are eligible to apply to transfer to year 3 of a BSc degree at the University of Lethbridge.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Environmental Technology Diploma can pursue careers in environmental monitoring, resource management, and land stewardship. Example career paths include:

Environmental Technician Field Technologist Conservation and Reclamation Assistant Water Quality Technician Wildlife or Fisheries Technician

Graduates may also continue their studies in environmental science, natural resource management, biology, geography, or related degree programs.

Program Details

High School Diploma (or equivalent):

You must have a high school diploma (or equivalent) with:

  • English 30-1
  • Math 30-1
  • Chemistry 30
  • Biology 30

Mature Students (21+):

Applicants who are 21 years of age or older at the time of admission are considered mature students. Mature students must meet the same admission requirements as outlined above.

English Language Proficiency (if applicable):

  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 79 with no score below 19
  • IELTS Academic: minimum overall band score of 6.0
  • CAEL: minimum score of 60
  • MELAB: minimum score of 80
  • Duolingo: minimum score of 100
  • PTE (Academic): minimum score of 50

Field Trips & Outdoor Labs

Environmental Technology courses include local field trips and outdoor laboratory activities in the Fort McMurray area during scheduled class hours. These experiences give students the opportunity to apply classroom concepts in real-world environmental settings.
