Keyano Instructor Celebrated at UBC Teacher Recognition Event

Keyano computer science instructor Said El Mejdani joined fellow McEwen Family Teacher Recognition Award recipients at the University of British Columbia’s Applied Science Dean’s Medal of Distinction celebration in Vancouver.

The event honoured both McEwen Family Teacher Recognition Award Recipients and Dean’s Medal of Distinction recipients. El Mejdani received the McEwen award in 2023.

For me, it was truly amazing to be honoured among such remarkable innovators from so many different fields: architecture, medicine, engineering, mathematics, venture incubation, and more.

— El Mejdani

Established in 2010 by UBC Engineering alumnus Dr. James McEwen and his family, the McEwen Family Teacher Recognition Award honours educators and their contributions to students.

The UBC recognition is among several teaching honours El Mejdani has received. His awards include the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2019, the Teachers Building Leaders Award in 2022 and the Aspirations in Computing Regional Affiliate Educator Award from the U.S. National Center for Women & Information Technology in 2023.
