Application Process

Students interested in credit programs must apply using the province-wide online application system ApplyAlberta. Applications are processed starting the day they are received, so applying early is encouraged.

Application Deadlines

  • Domestic applications open October 1 at 12:00 PM MST for Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring intakes.

  • International applications open October 1 at 12:00 PM MST.

  • Many programs fill quickly, so early application is recommended.

How to Apply

  • Submit your application online through ApplyAlberta and select Keyano College.
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee:
    • $54 for domestic applicants
    • $107 for international applicants
  • If you’re applying to more than one program, you must submit a separate application and fee for each.

Transcripts Submission

  • Current high school students should email first- and second-semester enrolment records to admissions@keyano.ca
  • If you studied in Alberta, your transcripts will be requested automatically.
  • If you studied outside Alberta, you must contact your former institution and request official transcripts be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar.

After You Apply – Domestic Applicants

Next steps:

  1. Pay the non-transferable, non-refundable $250 admission deposit to confirm your seat.
  2. You have 10 business days to accept the offer. If your offer expires, email admissions@keyano.ca to request reinstatement based on availability.
  3. You’ll receive your acceptance or conditional acceptance once your deposit is processed.
  4. You may be eligible for:
    1. Advanced Credit
    2. Prior Learning Assessment Recognition
  5. Register for classes.
  6. Meet with a Student Advisor to plan your academic path.

After You Apply – International Applicants

You will receive a MyKeys Admission Portal invite via email. Use the "Access Portal" link to set your password.

International admissions consider academic background, English proficiency, and diversity to create an inclusive environment.

Steps:

  1. Pay the non-transferable, non-refundable $5,000 admission deposit within 10 business days. If the offer expires, email admissions@keyano.ca.
  2. You will receive an acceptance email and several official documents:
    1. Letter of Acceptance
    2. Tuition Maximum Letter
    3. Co-op Letter (if required)
    4. Provincial Attestation Letter
  3. Upload proof of a valid study permit in the MyKeys portal before the deadline:
    1. Fall Intake: August 1
    2. Winter Intake: December 1
    3. Summer Intake: April 1

If the study permit is not uploaded by the deadline, you will be removed from all registered courses. Reinstatement is possible only if the permit is submitted and space is available.

Apprenticeship Training

Ready to begin or continue your apprenticeship training at Keyano? Follow these six steps to apply as an Alberta apprentice, register for classroom instruction and prepare for your first day. 

Already registered as an Alberta apprentice? Start at Step 2 to find and register for classroom instruction at Keyano. 

Before you can complete apprenticeship classroom instruction at Keyano, you need to apply for an Apprenticeship Education Program through MyTradesecrets, Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training’s online service. 

To apply, you will need:  

  • An Alberta.ca Account  
  • An Alberta Student Number  
  • Personal details required to fill out the application  
  • A valid payment method

You do not need a sponsor to register as an apprentice or attend your first period of classroom instruction. However, you will need a sponsor to earn the required on-the-job training hours toward completing your apprenticeship.

Watch your MyTradesecrets account and email for updates about your application.

Once you are accepted as an apprentice and eligible for classroom instruction, sign in to MyTradesecrets and select Class Registrations.  

Choose the trade and training period you are eligible for and find an available class at Keyano. Select the class dates that work for you and follow the registration instructions provided through MyTradesecrets.  

You do not need to select individual courses. Your classroom instruction is determined by your apprenticeship trade and training period.  

Important: Apprenticeship classroom instruction is offered on specific dates throughout the year. Registration is first come, first served, so register early.  

Once you have selected Keyano for your classroom instruction, follow the registration instructions to complete your enrolment and pay your tuition and fees.  

Employer paying for your training? Make sure you understand your employer's payment or sponsorship process before registering.  

Tuition and fees vary depending on your trade and training period. Visit your apprenticeship program page for current tuition, fees and program costs.  

Books and supplies can be purchased at Keynotes Bookstore.  

Once your registration is processed, the School of Trades and Technology will send you a welcome email within 10 business days before your first day of class.  

Your welcome email will include information about:  

  • Your classroom instruction dates  

  • Your Keyano student account  

  • Preparing your Keyano email and online accounts  

  • Required learning materials and supplies  

  • Parking and your Student ID Card  

  • Important program information  

Keep an eye on your email after registering so you don't miss important information from Keyano.  

Before your first day of classes, make sure you can access your Keyano student account and online services.  

Confirm Your Keyano Account Information  

You will need your Keyano student account information to access College systems.  

If you don't know your account information, submit a request to Information Technology Services (ITS). Your account information will be sent to you by email. 

Purchase Your Learning Materials

Purchase the required Individual Learning Modules (ILMs) for your apprenticeship period.  

ILM packages are available from the Keynotes Bookstore approximately two weeks before your start date. If you need your package earlier, contact the Keyano Bookstore.  

Your program may also require supplies such as:  

  • Binders, dividers and lined paper  
  • Pens, pencils, highlighters and erasers  
  • Ruler  
  • Calculator  
  • CSA-approved safety boots  
  • Safety goggles  
  • Gloves  
  • Trade-specific materials or equipment  

Check your welcome email for the materials required for your specific apprenticeship program.  

Get Ready for Campus

Before your first day, take care of a few campus essentials.  

Parking

If you plan to drive to campus, purchase parking through the HONK Mobile app and review current parking rates and locations. Students must park in designated non-reserved parking areas.  

Student ID Card

Request your Keyano Student ID Card before or when you arrive on campus. Your Student ID gives you access to College services and identifies you as a Keyano student.  

You're ready to begin!  

Review your welcome email before your first day to confirm your class location, start date and anything you need to bring with you.  

Attendance and punctuality are important throughout apprenticeship classroom instruction. If you will be late or absent, contact your instructor or the School of Trades and Technology.  

Remember to check your KeyanoMail regularly throughout your training for important College and program information.
