How to Apply as an International Student

Keyano College is proud to be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), welcoming students from around the world to study in Fort McMurray, Alberta. If you are applying from outside Canada, this page will walk you through the steps to apply, secure your study permit, and prepare for your educational journey at Keyano.

Step 1: Review the International Student Guide

Start by reviewing the International Student Guide for information on application steps, fees, health insurance, and general expectations.

Step 2: Submit Your Application

Apply online through ApplyAlberta.
We recommend applying at least six months before your intended start date to allow time for processing, visa approval, and travel planning.

Keyano considers academic achievement, English language proficiency, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. We encourage applications from students of all backgrounds.

Application Requirements

When submitting your application, you’ll need:

  • Transcripts and international education credentials
  • Final exam results, diplomas, or degrees (if applicable)
  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • Any program-specific documentation

Some applicants may be asked to complete an International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) evaluation.

Study Permits

If you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you must obtain a valid study permit before arriving in Canada. Visit the IRCC website to learn how to apply.

Once accepted, you must upload proof of your valid study permit to your MyKeys portal by the deadlines below:

  • Fall intake – August 1
  • Winter intake – December 1
  • Spring/Summer intake – April 1

Failure to submit your study permit on time will result in removal from your courses. Reinstatement is only possible if space is available.

Note: The permit is used solely to confirm your eligibility to begin studies at Keyano. Students are responsible for understanding and following all study permit conditions.

Tuition Maximum Letters

All accepted international students receive a Tuition Maximum Letter—a document that outlines the maximum tuition fees for the standard duration of your program.

  • This letter is used to support financial planning and visa applications
  • It does not reflect the exact amount owing
  • It does not include student fees, textbooks, health insurance, or living expenses

If you did not receive your Tuition Maximum Letter, please contact admissions@keyano.ca.
