Keyano College offers a two-year transfer pathway for students pursuing a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). Through the Social Work Diploma Program, students complete foundational coursework and practical training designed to meet third-year entry requirements at institutions like the University of Calgary and other Alberta post-secondary institutions.

The diploma is:

  • Approved by Alberta Advanced Education and Technology
  • Accredited by the Alberta College of Social Work

Graduates are eligible to enter the workforce as beginning practitioners or transfer into a degree program to continue toward full social work licensure.

What You’ll Learn

Through a combination of classroom learning, research, and community-focused practice, you’ll build a solid foundation in core competencies:

  • Human Behaviour & Development – Explore the psychological, emotional, and social drivers of human interaction
  • Social Justice & Advocacy – Understand systemic issues and how to advocate for marginalized populations

  • 6 credits of Junior English (e.g., ENGL 125)
  • SOWK 201 – Introduction to Social Work
  • 21 credits of Arts or Science electives

Year 2

  • 30 credits of Arts or Science electives
  • Recommended disciplines:

    • Indigenous Studies
    • History
    • English

Admission Requirements

High School Admission

 Applicants must have a High School Diploma (or equivalent) with:

  • A minimum average of 60% in:
    • English 30-1
    • Four additional subjects from Groups A, B, or C (only one Group B subject may be used)

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older by the first day of classes and present:

  • English 30-1 with a minimum grade of 60%

English Language Proficiency
