The University Transfer: Bachelor of Education – Secondary Program at Keyano College prepares future educators to teach junior high and high school students in specialized subject areas. Students complete up to two years (60 credits) of university transfer coursework before moving on to a partner institution, such as the University of Alberta, to complete the final two years of their Bachelor of Education degree.
Graduates are eligible to apply for teacher certification in Alberta, opening doors to careers in both public and private secondary school systems.

Years 1 & 2 Overview
Students complete a combination of education courses, major and minor coursework, and electives. A typical 60-credit structure includes:
- 6 credits in Education
- EDU 100 – Contexts of Education
- EDU 210 – Introduction to Educational Technology
- 6 credits in English Literature and Composition
(If this requirement is already fulfilled as part of your major or minor, you may choose 6 credits in open options.) - 6 credits in Open Options
- EDPY 302 – Learning and Development in Childhood is recommended
- 21 to 33 credits in Major
- Minimum 18 credits should be completed in years 1 and 2
- 12 to 18 credits in Minor
- Minimum 9 credits should be completed in years 1 and 2
Admission Requirements
High School Admission
- High School Diploma with a minimum average of 60%, no mark below 50%
- Required courses:
- English 30-1
- Three subjects from Groups A or C
- One subject from Group A, B, or C
- Math 30-1 or 30-2 strongly recommended
Mature Student Admission
Applicants must be 21 years of age or older by the first day of classes and present:
- English 30-1
- One subject from Group A or C
- Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 is strongly recommended
After Degree Admission
Students with a recognized 3- or 4-year degree may apply directly into year 3 of the program. Requirements include:
