Class 3 Driver Training

A Class 3 licence in Alberta is a professional operator’s licence that allows you to drive select commercial vehicles, along with any vehicle permitted under a Class 5 licence.
            What You Can Drive with a Class 3 Licence
With a valid Class 3 licence, you can operate:
- Any motor vehicle allowed under a Class 5 licence
 - A single motor vehicle with three or more axles
 - A motor vehicle with three or more axles towing a trailer (as long as the trailer has no air brakes)
 - Class 1, 2, 4, or 6 vehicles as a learner only
 
You may not drive:
- A vehicle that seats more than 15 people (including the driver)
 - A vehicle used to transport passengers for hire
 
Course Structure
To enrol in Class 3 Driver Training, you must have:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence
 - Air Brake “Q” Endorsement
 - Completed Class 3 Knowledge Test from an Alberta Registry
 - Driver’s Abstract from the past 2 years
 
If English is not your first language, you must meet one of the following:
- CLB: Minimum core score of 6
 - TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 59
 - IELTS: Minimum overall score of 6.5 (no band below 5.5)
 - CAEL: Minimum score of 50
 - Duolingo: Minimum score of 85
 - PTE (Academic): Minimum score of 36
 
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Canadian Driver’s Licence
 - For non-native English speakers, one of the following is required:
 - CLB: Minimum core score of 6
 - TOEFL iBT: Minimum 59
 - IELTS: Minimum 6.5 overall (no band below 5.5)
 - CAEL: Minimum 50
 - Duolingo: Minimum 85
 - PTE (Academic): Minimum 36
 
PPE Required
- Steel-toe boots
 - Hard hat
 - Reflective vest
 - Safety glasses
 
Important Notes
- Class 3 vehicles are available with manual and automatic transmissions
 - Alberta Registry requires students to purchase a Driver’s Exam Permit
