The Medical Office Assistant Certificate Program at Keyano College provides essential training for those seeking a career in healthcare administration. Participants develop critical skills in medical terminology, office procedures, customer service, digital literacy, and clinical support, all within the context of Canada’s healthcare system.

This non-credit certificate is currently available exclusively through Corporate Training, allowing organizations to upskill their staff with a flexible, customizable format.

Admission Requirements

Students must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in Keyano College Continuing Education courses. 

There is no admission requirement/application process to start a non-credit certificate program.

Courses may be completed individually, or complete the seven required courses to achieve your Medical Office Assistant certificate.   

CEMOA100 – Medical Terminology

This course introduces students to the essential medical vocabulary used in healthcare settings. Students will explore the structure and formation of medical terms, including prefixes, suffixes, and compound word constructions. Emphasis is placed on developing accurate and effective communication skills, enabling students to describe the human body, its major systems, and related pathological conditions with clarity and precision.

CEMOA200 – Office Procedures

This course introduces students to essential office procedures and protocols that support effective administrative functions. Students will learn practical skills such as meeting minute taking, event coordination, travel arrangements, and filing, while understanding the processes behind each task. Emphasis is placed on responding to workplace requests professionally and efficiently, ensuring smooth daily business operations.

CEMOA300 – Customer Service

It is inevitable that the success or failure of any organization depends on customer service excellence. This course explores the fundamentals of customer service within the context of a competitive global business environment, including best practices of ethical customer service relations and cultural protocols.

CEMOA400 – Time Management and Decision Making

This course focuses on improving productivity and prioritization skills in the workplace. Students will explore strategies for effective time management, overcoming procrastination, and making thoughtful decisions. Emphasis is placed on sharpening analytical thinking while recognizing and minimizing personal and emotional biases, enabling students to approach tasks and challenges with clarity and efficiency.

CEMOA500 – Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course teaches healthcare professionals to recognize life-threatening emergencies and respond effectively using Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillators (AED), and choking relief techniques. Students will complete a 2-hour self-paced online portion before attending a 2-hour in-person session to practice skills and demonstrate competency in a safe and timely manner.

CEMOA600 – Microsoft 365 Word

This course is intended to help all novice computer users get up to speed with Word quickly. We will cover different features of the interface, show users how to create a basic document, and introduce users to Word’s most important tools. By the end of this course, students should be comfortable with creating, saving, and sharing a new document. Students will also become familiar with using and customizing the Microsoft Word interface. 

CEIPHE101 – Orientation to Canadian Healthcare

This course introduces students to the Canadian healthcare system and the expectations of patients and healthcare professionals. Students will explore the historical and current landscape of healthcare, including the roles of provincial and federal authorities. Emphasis is placed on effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues, while addressing patient safety, ethical considerations, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of cultural competence.

Currently, the program is only available through corporate or group training. Individuals may express interest for future public offerings.

Course schedules are flexible and depend on your organization’s needs. Most corporate clients schedule training over several weeks.

Yes. Corporate clients can choose delivery formats (online, in person, hybrid) and timelines to meet operational requirements.

Some modules, like Basic Life Support, include a formal evaluation. Others use participation and practical application to assess learning.
