McMurray Aviation logoThe Business Aviation Diploma program is for learners who are interested in pursuing a career in aviation business operations. This two-year diploma program provides students with business knowledge along with the aviation training compliant with Transport Canada standards. Through successful acquisition of both a private and commercial pilot’s license within the program, graduates may pursue career specializations in Northern Aviation Operations or Airline Operations. This program is in collaboration with McMurray Aviation, a regional commercial aviation services provider located in Fort McMurray, Alberta. What You’ll Learn

This program combines flight training with core business education to prepare you for a career in aviation management and operations. You’ll develop both the technical expertise required for commercial flight and the business skills needed in the aviation industry.

Key subject areas include:

  • Private and commercial flight theory and training (Transport Canada standards)
  • Aviation operations and safety management
  • Financial accounting and business mathematics
  • Marketing and new enterprise development
  • Specialized training in Airline Operations or Northern Aviation Operations

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Business Aviation Diploma are prepared for careers in both flight operations and aviation management. With business training and Transport Canada–approved flight experience, you can work across various sectors of the aviation industry. Example roles include:

  • Flight Operations Coordinator
  • Aviation Safety Officer
  • Airline Operations Manager
  • Aviation Business Manager
  • Air Traffic Controller

Admission Requirements

High School Diploma, or equivalent, with a minimum of:

  • 50% in Math 30-1 or 55% in Math 30-2 and
  • 60% in English 30/30-1 or 65% in English 33/30-2

Mature students (students who are 21 years or older) may be admitted by:

  • The completion of the above Math and English courses (with the grades specified) OR
  • Pass mark on the College Entrance Test

Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through one of the following:

  • TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 79 (no section below 19)
  • IELTS: minimum overall band score of 6.0
  • CAEL: minimum score of 60
  • MELAB: minimum score of 80
  • Duolingo English Test: minimum score of 95
  • PTE Academic: minimum score of 50

In addition to demonstrating English Language Proficiency, applicants whose first language is not English must also present Spoken Language Proficiency. Applicants who have six or more years of full-time education (including grade 12 year or higher) in a Canadian school where the language of instruction was English, meet this requirement. If applicants do not present these years of English education, they can meet this requirement by presenting one of the following:

  • A minimum of 26 on the speaking band of the TOEFL: iBT
  • A minimum of 7.5 on the IELTS speaking band
  • A minimum of 125 on the Duolingo conversation band 

Transport Canada Medical Examination 1 – for aviation / flying component. 

Two positions per year are made available in the Business Aviation Diploma Program for qualified Canadian Indigenous applicants. If qualified Canadian Indigenous applicants are not admitted by May 30, the positions may be filled with students of non-Indigenous ancestry. 

Program Structure

Keyano College reserves the right to modify the syllabus, curriculum, or schedule of any course/program, or to cancel a course/program entirely, at any time and for any reason. Such changes may be necessary due to unforeseen circumstances, regulatory requirements, or to ensure the highest quality of education.
Students will be notified of any significant changes as soon as possible. Keyano College is not responsible for any inconvenience or disruption caused by these changes. It is the responsibility of the students to stay informed about any updates or modifications to their courses.

Tuition & Fees

Please note

  • Based on 15–16.5 credits per term. Does not include books or supplies.
    All fees are approximate and subject to change. Final tuition is confirmed at registration.

  • Tuition estimates are based on full-time enrollment across all semesters and do not include lab fees. Lab fees range from $34–$132 (2024–25) and $35–$135 (2025–26).

  • Health & Dental fees are applied automatically but may be waived with proof of alternate coverage. Visit the StudentCare website for opt-out deadlines.

  • Some programs include a mandatory Spring semester for on-time graduation.

  • Tuition is due 10 business days before the start of each term.

Withdrawal before program start

Students who withdraw 10 or more days before the program start date are eligible for a 50% refund of tuition fees, excluding any non-refundable deposits.

Program cancellation

If Keyano cancels the program, participants will receive a full refund, including tuition and deposits.
Deposits - all deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
