The Advanced High School Equivalency Program at Keyano College offers adult learners the opportunity to earn a high school diploma equivalent recognized by colleges, universities, trade schools, and employers across Canada. Designed for individuals returning to education, this flexible and supportive program helps you complete core academic requirements, build confidence, and prepare for your next step - whether it's post-secondary education or the workforce.

Admission Requirements

To enroll in the Advanced High School Equivalency program, you must meet one of the following:

Option 1: Academic Foundations Certificate

Minimum C- in both:

  • Academic Foundations Language Arts 100
  • Academic Foundations Math 100

Option 2: Transcripts

  • Proof of completion of Grade 9 or higher

Option 3: Placement Assessment

  • ACCUPLACER score showing academic readiness at or above Grade 10 level

English Language Proficiency (required for non-native speakers):

  • TOEFL iBT: 40
  • IELTS Academic: 5.0
  • CLBPT or CLBA: No section below 5.0
  • CELPIP General: 5.0
  • Duolingo: 80

Credential Requirements

To earn your Advanced High School Equivalency Program diploma, you must:

Required Academic Courses:

  • Achieve a minimum GPA of 1.7

Required Courses:

  • English 30-1
  • Math 30-1
  • Social Studies 30-1

Plus one of the following options:

Option 1: Two Sciences

  • Biology 30
  • Chemistry 30
  • Physics 30

Option 2: Applied Math + One Science

  • Math 031
  • One of: Biology 30, Chemistry 30, or Physics 30

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. This program is equivalent to an Alberta High School Diploma and is accepted by universities, colleges, and trade programs.

Yes. Prior high school or post-secondary coursework may be credited, but English 30-1 or 30-2 plus two other 30-level courses must be completed at Keyano College.

Yes. You may study full-time or part-time, depending on your schedule and funding eligibility.

You may be eligible for Alberta’s Foundational Learning Assistance Program, which helps cover tuition and living expenses.

Steps to apply:

  1. Apply and be accepted into the program
  2. Request Keyano to confirm your enrollment
  3. Create a verified MyAlberta Digital ID
  4. Watch for an email from: foundational.learning.assistance@gov.ab.ca
  5. Submit your application at least 8 weeks before the term begins
