Introducing Encore: A Signature Evening of Impact

Fort McMurray, AB

The story of the Keyano Gala didn't begin in a ballroom, but inside a trades shop. In 1978, community leaders gathered at the Heavy Industrial Campus, surrounded by blueprints and industrial equipment, to rally around a shared vision – an $18 million future for education in Fort McMurray.

As that vision took shape, so did the celebration. By 1981, the gathering moved from the shop floor to the spotlight of the newly opened Keyano Theatre. That inaugural Gala set a distinct tone for the decades to follow. Canadian Brass marched into the room playing live, culinary students prepared the meal, and a tradition was born.

Over the years, the Gala became one of Fort McMurray’s most anticipated annual events. Community leaders, partners, alumni, and supporters gathered each year to celebrate the impact of education while enjoying unforgettable performances.

While entertainers have changed, the deeper purpose remains the same: supporting students and strengthening the region through education. Thanks to the generosity of donors and partners, students have been able to access education, build confidence, and prepare for careers that contribute to the future of Wood Buffalo. In 2026, we honour that legacy. We invite you to join us for the next movement in this storied tradition.

This is Encore: A Signature Evening of Impact.

The Next Chapter

As Keyano marks the close of its 60th Anniversary celebrations, Encore represents the evolution of the Gala and the next step in this legacy of community support.

Encore will offer a refreshed experience designed to celebrate the collective impact we share in Wood Buffalo. Guests can expect a thoughtfully designed evening featuring a new venue, a four-course meal, and high-level entertainment.

Most importantly, the night will centre on the powerful stories of Keyano students and alumni whose journeys reflect what is possible when a community invests in education.
