As Keyano College concluded its 60th anniversary celebrations this past Saturday, guests gathered for an evening of mystery, elegance, and celebration at the 2025 Keyano Gala: Diamond Masquerade, proudly sponsored by Suncor. The event marked the culmination of a milestone year—highlighting six decades of achievement, growth and impact—and celebrated a renewed sponsorship with Syncrude, operated by Suncor.

The program featured local favourite Tyler Whelan as the opening act and was headlined by the legendary Canadian rock band Trooper, with Brendan Toner returning as Emcee and Mike Hull once again leading the evening’s auction.

“The continued and generous backing of the Keyano Gala highlights the community’s firm belief in the institution’s significance and underscores our shared values and dedication to shaping the region’s future,” said Dr. Sandra Efu, Interim President and CEO of Keyano College.

The Gala featured the announcement of Syncrude’s renewed partnership as the main sponsor of the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre (SSWC) at Keyano College. Since opening in fall 2007, this 102,250-square-foot multi-purpose sport and wellness complex has carried the Syncrude name and serves as a vital hub for fitness, recreation, and community involvement in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The SSWC welcomes students, staff, and the broader community. It is also home to the Keyano Huskies athletic teams and has hosted numerous provincial and national collegiate and community sporting events, establishing itself as a regional centre for sport and wellness.

“We are proud to renew our commitment to Keyano College, a vital community institution that supports education, training and sport across Wood Buffalo,” said Suncor’s Willis Doiron, community investment specialist.

Along with Syncrude’s renewed commitment, this year’s Gala grossed an estimated four-hundred-fifty-thousand dollars, with net proceeds (still being calculated) going to academic support, Huskies Athletics, and Theatre operating cost, supporting programs and initiatives that make a lasting difference in the Wood Buffalo region.

“Keyano College sincerely thanks everyone who donated, attended, bid, volunteered, or offered support. Your generosity truly transforms lives and uplifts our community,” added Dr. Efu.
