Research at Keyano is about more than academic inquiry - it’s about practical solutions, local relevance, and meaningful partnerships. Our focus on applied research, Indigenous inclusion, and student-faculty collaboration strengthens the college’s impact in northern Alberta and beyond.
This hub offers an overview of our research ecosystem - from key priority areas and internal funding to the training, resources, and ethics that guide responsible inquiry.
Our Research Priorities
We focus our efforts where they matter most — in areas with direct benefit to our communities and future generations. Our four research pillars are:
- Health and Wellness
Topics include mental health, addictions, Indigenous health, and improving care in northern and remote communities. - Teaching and Learning
Exploring effective pedagogy, digital learning, inclusive curriculum, and student success strategies. - Environment and Natural Resources
Research focused on sustainability, land use, and the stewardship of Alberta’s boreal ecosystems and resources. - Society and Culture
Inquiry into Indigenous knowledge, reconciliation, the arts, and the social dynamics that shape life in our region.
