About the CTL

CTL improves the quality of curriculum and instruction at Keyano College by supporting the continuous improvement of all staff, faculty, and administrators. We play a key role in the College’s educational development through:

  • Instructional development
  • eLearning, ed tech, and HyFlex support
  • Program & course quality assurance
  • Institutional improvement projects

Faculty can visit our staff office at CC213 or the Teaching and Learning Commons at CC266.

Faculty Resources

Our Centre maintains guides with resources on various topics related to teaching and learning, program quality assurance, learning technologies, artificial intelligence, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

CTL Support and Events

We support faculty and staff via face-to-face consultations, email requests, and MS Teams requests.

Face-to-face consultations

Faculty can drop in to CC213 or CC266 or book an appointment with a staff member.

Our CTL also coordinates regular teaching and learning events like Instructional Skills Workshops, Lunch and Learns, and PQA seminars. You can view our upcoming events or join the ISW waitlist, or email CTL@Keyano.ca for support.

Centre for Teaching and Learning's Pillars

Our Centre’s work is guided by four key pillars that support teaching, learning, and academic quality across the college.

The CTL supports program and course quality assurance by:

  • Providing course developers with resources and feedback;
  • Providing administrators and committees with resources and help during program development;
  • Helping administrators report program changes to the Government of Alberta;
  • Helping administrators implement program review processes; and
  • Maintaining up-to-date program plans and data.

The CTL helps to advance the quality of teaching and learning by:

  • Helping administrators and faculty oversee SoTL and OER grant programs;
  • Providing professional development training to new and existing faculty;
  • Advancing Keyano strategic goals related to teaching and learning, including Sustainable Development
  • Goals and Indigenization; and
  • Establishing and maintaining spaces for faculty to collaborate and engage in professional development

The CTL helps faculty effectively apply learning and online technologies by:

  • Training faculty to use new learning technologies;
  • Helping faculty use Moodle;
  • Managing the Library’s learning technologies that faculty borrow;
  • Training and supporting faculty in the effective use of AI; and
  • Supporting research and application of new learning technologies at Keyano.

The CTL helps Keyano maintain a strong learning community by:

  • Collecting data and reporting on faculty needs and feedback related to improving teaching and learning;
  • Improving CTL’s reputation, visibility, and presence through such efforts as signage, newsletters, and continuous improvement of its programs and services;
  • Advancing communities of practice and knowledge mobilization to promote expertise sharing among faculty; and
  • Continuing to develop relationships with external teaching and learning organizations.

Strategic Goals

Our Centre helps the college community implement Keyano’s Strategic Plan that are relevant to teaching and learning. Currently, this includes helping faculty align their courses with Sustainable Development Goals and helping faculty Indigenize and decolonize their curriculum and instruction.
