Massage Therapy Training

Join us to become a Registered Massage Therapist!

Since 2003 Keyano College has hosted Alberta College of Massage Therapy ( Formerly Alberta Massage Training ) to offer their top quality massage therapy education here in Fort McMurray.

The Alberta College of Massage Therapy (ACMT) has a progressive, inspired, learning approach which combines flexible learning with regular in-class tutorials. Students will work through directed readings and specific curriculum during the home study component and receive credit for those hours spent away from class. Email and telephone access are always available to reach faculty with questions or support. Written testing and hands on skills will dominate the in-class component of the course, this way the students will know how they are progressing, and to identify areas where the class or an individual student needs more guidance.

Flexible Learning

Our flexible learning may be the best choice for you if:
- You would like a career in massage therapy, but a full time on-campus schedule does not work with your schedule
- You are currently employed, a student or have an otherwise busy lifestyle

The Spa Massage Practitioner Program (SMP) is a prerequisite for entry to the second year Massage Therapy program (MT). Graduates of the MT program will be eligible to practice as Registered Massage Therapists (RMT). The SMP program runs over 30 weeks with 8 compulsory weekends of in-class sessions, plus a home study and a practicum component which totals 1,000 hours. Our practicum provides students with a valuable RMT Supervised experience treating the public in a professional clinic environment.

The Spa Massage Practitioner Certificate program provides students with the knowledge to provide a safe and ethical one hour relaxation massage using a variety of Swedish and relaxation massage techniques. Students will also be introduced to Case History, Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology and Hydrotherapy. Graduates of the SMP program will have the ability to work independently or as an employee at spas, resorts or cruise ships. Upon completion of this program, graduates can become members of the National Health Practitioners of Canada or the Remedial Massage Therapy Association of Alberta.

Completion of the SMP program is required for entry to the second year Massage Therapy (MT) Diploma program, which enables graduates to practice as an RMT.

The Massage Therapy (MT) program is held over a period of 44 weeks. The 1,200 hour MT program includes; 11 weekends of classroom study, home study and a clinical practicum component. Upon completion of the MT program, students will have acquired a total of 2200 hours of education with ACMT. ACMT 2,200 hour Diploma holders are then able to practice as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) across Canada.

This diploma program provides the students with an opportunity to learn deep tissue massage, fascia release, facilitated exercises, history taking, orthopedic assessments and treatment of pathologies of the entire muscular-skeletal system. These skills provide the ability to treat whiplash, headaches, lower back pain, and many other conditions normally treated by a highly qualified Registered Massage Therapist. They also learn how to work closely with other healthcare professionals such as medical doctors, chiropractors, and physiotherapists.

ACMT accepts Direct Entry into the 2nd year MT program from other recognized massage colleges, please contact the ACMT administration office for further information.
