We offer Spanish language courses, which help your Spanish communication skills. You can choose between the introductory-level Spanish Level 1 course and the intermediate Spanish Level 2 course, depending on your experience. Newly added, Spanish for Families allows one adult and up to two children to register for a course together and learn greetings and basic conversational Spanish through games and hands-on activities in a small class setting. 

Admission requirements

  • There are no admission requirements for Spanish Level 1.
  • You must have completed Spanish Level 1 or have basic Spanish language skills to register for Spanish Level 2.
  • There is an age requirement to attend Spanish for Families, children must be between 6-12 years of age. Please contact the Office of the Registrar with any questions. Email: registrar@keyano.ca Phone: +1-780-791-4801

Program Structure

Delivery Format: In-Person and HyFlex.

All course materials will be posted on the Keyano Learning Management System (iLearn.keyano.ca) before a course start.

  • Students use their Keyano student credentials to access their accounts.

Courses

Spanish Level 1  (CELANG210)

We recommend the CELANG 210 - Spanish Level 1 course for beginner-level Spanish students or for those who plan to travel to Spanish speaking countries. You will learn:

  • The basics of speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish
  • How to introduce yourself, tell time, give and ask for basic information, speak about everyday actions and learn useful phrases in Spanish-speaking countries
  • Comprehension and speaking skills

TEXTBOOK (highly recommended): Easy Spanish Step by Step, Barbara Bregstein, McGraw Hill. 

Spanish Level 2 (CELANG220)

We recommend the CELANG 220 - Spanish Level 2 course for students with basic Spanish language skills who want to become more fluent. You will review Spanish Level 2 content and grammatical concepts, like verb tenses and conjugation. You will also learn how to:

  • Expand on your Spanish speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
  • Give and ask for specific and detailed information
  • Communicate in Spanish in a variety of social situations

TEXTBOOK (highly recommended): Easy Spanish Step by Step, Barbara Bregstein, McGraw Hill. 

Fun Spanish Class for Families (CELANG 203, CELANG 204)

Discover the world, explore a new culture, and make international friends for life!

Are you travelling to a hot country during the February Reading Week? Register for the fun Spanish class for families led by a native Spanish speaker, Vivianne Leon.

Children and guardians will learn common greetings and basic conversational Spanish through games and hands-on activities in a small class setting.

Note: The age requirement for children is 6-12 year old.
