We have many types of safety training and certificates available to students and the community.

Replacement Certificates

CSTS: You can get CSTS replacement cards by printing them from your ACSA Student Services account (set up at registration), calling 1-800-661-2272 or emailing ACSA Support support@youracsa.ca to order.

Safety Training

Keyano College offers a wide variety of safety certifications to suit your workplace needs. Whether it be a small or large group we are able to accommodate your workplace needs.

Driver Training

Class 1 Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT)

Effective March 1, 2019 standardized entry level training is mandatory for all new Class 1 commercial drivers. Training includes a number of government mandated training hours, standardized curriculum and knowledge/road tests for Class 1 drivers. Class 3 Driver Training
After you complete our Class 3 Driver Training program, you will be eligible for your Road Test with the Alberta Registry. Contact the Office of the Registrar for upcoming training dates.

**Our Class 3 vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, and training includes approximately 30 hours of in-truck training (this inlcudes observation time, real time driving, backing techniques, walk arounds, etc.)**

It is your responsibility to purchase the Driver's Exam permit from the Alberta Registry. We will book and arrange your exam times.

More truck time can be arranged and purchased for an additional fee.

 Common Safety Orientation

Common Safety Orientation (CSO) is the new orientation for the oil and gas industry. For more information, go to www.energysafetycanada.com. If you need a computer to take your CSO training, Keyano College Testing Centre offers a fully equipped computer lab.

 Cargo Securement

Course content includes an overview of load securement techniques and how to apply them. The training consists of 13 modules. The first two modules deal with the science and standard and the remaining modules address specific cargo types, modes and characteristics. The 11 prescribed cargo specific modules include: logs, dressed lumber, metal coils, paper rolls, concreate pipe-crosswire, inter-modal containers, automobiles, heavy vehicles, equipment and machinery, flattened or crushed vehicles, roll-on/roll-off containers, hook lift vehicles and large boulders. This course is theory based with no practical training/hands-on component.

 Ground Disturbance

This course includes Level I and II ground disturbance certification. It is designed for workers who supervise ground disturbance, independently perform a ground disturbance, or issue and hard hat ground disturbance permits. Level II is the standardized program recognized by industry regulators. The program ensures personnel are fully aware of regulations and variances involved when a ground disturbance takes place. Participants are taught how to clarify sources when searching for underground facilities, provide notification to the facility owner and gain an understanding of the necessary approvals/crossing agreements and regulations. They learn to create a plot/plan/site drawing, gain an understanding of line locating and learn about types of exposures. Back-fill inspection and emergency response plans are also covered in the training.

 Hours of Service with Log Book

Drivers, dispatchers, supervisors, and any other employee who reviews a driver's record of duty status, assigns loads or makes work schedules should have working knowledge of the regulations. This training will assist companies to stay in compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The training course will review the basics of keeping an accurate, legal and current driber's log.

Rigging and Overhead Crane Safety Certification

This 1-day course will allow students to identify the responsibilities of a rigger and demonstrate knowledge of safe practices in basic rigging as outlined by Occupational Health and Safety. Students must demonstrate and comprehend proper hand signals and calculate the safe working load of any rigging arrangement using the Rigger's Pocket Guide. Participants will also determine the maximum safe working load for any rope sling, web sling or common rigging hard wear, and inspect the following rigging hard wear: wire rope slings, synthetic fiber slings, lifting hooks, shackles, eyebolts, wedge sockets, unbuckles. Students must wear personal protective equipment including a hard hat, safety glasses and steel toed boots.

Standard First Aid & Emergency First Aid

Learn skills for adult, child and infant CP, including methods for rescue breathing, as well as procedures to address choking, bleeding, wounds, shock, unconsciousness, head, spinal and pelvic injuries, secondary survey, multiple casualty management, chest injuries, rescue carries, heat/cold emergencies, eye injuries, burns, poisions, medical conditions, and administering EPI pens and metered dose inhalers. New protocol changes and AED certification are also instructed.

Winter Workplace Safety (online)

This interactive iLearn course consists of four modules that can be taken at your own pace. It offers students the modules to have the necessary training and tools to understand the dangers of falling ice and other winter workplace snow and ice hazards, before they begin employment on a job site. 

Course length: 3-4 hours

Fee: $145 + GST

Wildlife Awareness and Safety

This wildlife awareness and safety seminar will provide participants with the necessary safety skills to live, work, and coexist with wildlife. This seminar will demonstrate the following objectives: identify and become familiar with northern wildlife ecology, learn how to avoid wildlife encounters, discover the necessary skills to deal with a wildlife encounter, understand how to effectively use non-lethal wildlife deterrents, such as bear spray. This course includes a hands-on field exercise where students will deploy bear spray with the intention of becoming compeyent and comfortable using this tool.

 Reprinting your certificate
 

We can reprint Safety certificates for students that have taken the following courses within the past 3 years:

  • Air Brakes Q Endorsement (Valid 1 for year after training)
  • Forklift
  • Front End Loader/Wheeled Loader
  • Rigging & Overhead Crane
  • Skid Steer
  • Zoom Boom

The fee for each safety certification card reprint is: $25 + GST, which you can pay for at the School of Continuing Education office, Bob Lamb Building, Room BL200. You must bring a valid government-issued photo ID to receive the certificate.
