Keyano College's Advanced English courses can help you gain the knowledge, confidence and skills to succeed in the Canadian workplace. You'll learn how to improve your verbal and written skills, and write reports and emails as you advance your career.

Admission requirements

Theses advanced English courses are designed for Internationally educated  professionals.  Although there is no admission requirement, Canadian Language Benchmark Level  6 to 8 skills are recommended.

Program structure

Fall courses will be delivered in the livestream online platform via Moodle and Zoom. This increases the accessibility and flexibility of the courses.  All course materials will be posted on Moodle, and you will be able to access them prior to your course start date.  Please email Continuing Education or call 780-799-0535  if you don’t know your credential.

A minimum of 80% attendance is required in all courses as well as completion of all assignments.

Advanced English courses 
Advanced English - Workplace Writing - 21 hours, $495 
In our Workplace Writing course, you'll learn how to improve your written workplace communication skills. It covers common workplace vocabulary, expressions, and writing techniques. You'll learn how to write résumés, emails, business letters, and other workplace documents.  
Advanced English - Pronunciation Power - 21 hours, $495 
In Pronunciation Power, you'll gain pronunciation tools and strategies to improve your spoken English. Lessons will focus on listening skills, intonation and rhythm patterns, word and sentence stress, pausing and thought groups, and on why it is important to slow down when communicating to ensure accurate comprehension.  
Advanced English - Speaking Professionally - 21 hours, $495 

Speaking Professionally includes:

Critical English - 21 hours 
In our Critical English course, you'll learn how to improve English comprehension, speaking, reading and writing in a professional business context. This includes proper pronunciation of vowel and consonant sounds and to using pauses and speed to communicate more clearly. You'll practice and receive feedback on writing skills as you learn to write messages that are clear and concise. This is a 25-hour course with 21 hours of classroom instruction and 4 hours of assigned homework. 
 Canadian Workplace Culture - 21 hours
Canadian Workplace Culture is a 36-hour optional course that explores the differences and similarities between Canadian workplace culture and that of your home country. You'll assess your own communication style, enhance your leadership abilities and understand the transition into a new cultural context. You'll learn to use intercultural knowledge to help integrate into the Canadian workplace.

Canada-Alberta Job Grant 

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant provides funding to Alberta business to help hire and train employees. You can receive up to $10,000 per employee per year for skills training. Keyano College has a list of pre-approved courses and program areas that are eligible for the grant.  Visit our Canada-Alberta Job Grant webpage for information on how to apply and employer benefits.
