Admission Requirements Tuition and Fees Program Structure


Keyano College provides adult learners with an opportunity to upgrade their elementary and high school education to best prepare them for entrance into college, university or the workforce. These programs are geared towards all learning levels and will help you achieve a high school equivalency.

Academic Foundations

Our Academic Foundations program gives you the opportunity to upgrade to a grade nine equivalency. You can choose from entry, intermediate and advanced level courses. Your course placement will depend upon your skills and knowledge.

This program is available on a full- or part-time basis and can be taken at the Clearwater Campus as well as our Fort Chipewyan Campus and Regional Learning Centres. Once completed, you can continue into the College Preparation program, enter a Trades Program or go directly into the workforce.

Applications are accepted for Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters. Please submit your application as soon as possible as many programs fill up quickly.

Contact the Office of the Registrar or the Program Chair to decide your entry level. You will also have to take a placement assessment in order to apply for this program.

College Preparation

The College Preparation program focuses on upgrading select subjects and skills at the grade 10, 11, and 12 equivalency levels. Once completed, you will be able to enter apprenticeship, technical, career or university programs as well as the workforce.

You can take this program at our Clearwater Campus or any of our Regional Learning Centres. The length of time it takes to complete this program depends on your education background, motivation and goals.

Admission requirements

Before applying to this program, you should meet with a student advisor, counsellor, or Program Chair to determine your education and career goals. In order to be accepted into the program, you must meet one of the following requirements.

Academic Foundations Certificate

You have completed the Academic Foundations Certificate program with a minimum C grade in:

  • Academic Foundations Language Arts 009
  • Academic Foundations Math 009

Grade Nine Equivalency

You must be able to provide transcripts showing successful completion up to an Alberta Education Grade 9 equivalency or higher.

Mature Students

Mature students are eligible to enter this program. To qualify as a mature student you must be 21 years of age or older and have been out of school for at least three consecutive years.

Academic Placement Assessment

You can gain acceptance to this program if you complete an Academic Placement Assessment demonstrating a Grade 10 or higher skill level.

  • Trades and Technologies

With this certificate, you will receive a Grade 12 equivalency.
