Statement – Coronavirus information/Keyano College

Posted On Thursday March 12, 2020

Contrary to ongoing rumours in the community, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) within Keyano College.

Out of respect and privacy, we will not report individual testing results. We provided the initial internal message on March 7 to be open and honest with our staff and students. Not to illicit fear and panic.

We will confirm that at this point employee test results received have been negative for the COVID-19.

We are supporting our staff & students that may need to self-isolate or remain home due to cold and flu symptoms. Self-isolation is a precautionary measure and does not mean that the person is infected with COVID-19 and while the worldwide situation is evolving, the risk for Albertans is still considered low at this time.

Keyano College is vigilantly monitoring and responding to new information about the coronavirus outbreak. The College has formed an internal response team to prepare for potential operational contingencies. Additional prevention measures are also being taken, including enhanced cleaning procedures for all offices and common areas within the College.

Keyano is also in the process of launching a messaging system, SchoolMessenger, to directly and effectively communicate any urgent messages with staff, students, and lease holders within our facilities.

Our top priority is the health and safety of our staff and students, as well as the public at large. In the event that testing determines an individual is a presumptive or confirmed case, the College will follow the guidance of Alberta Health Services, the Government of Alberta, and appropriate federal agencies.

The College has also created a webpage which will be updated regularly with the most accurate and up-to-date information.
