2018-2019 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC)  Futsal Championships

March 15-17, 2019

Val Matteotti Gymnasium

Lethbridge Alberta

Hosted by Lethbridge College Kodiaks

It was from 2012-to-2015 that the Keyano College Huskies kicked off against the Lakeland College Rustlers for Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC)  Futsal Men’s supremacy.

The Huskies captured all three banners while playing in the respective gymnasiums of Olds, Keyano and Lakeland.

After a two-year hiatus, the two sides met up once again in the gold medal match...this time at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Keyano are defending title holder looking for their 6th crown since 2010 while the Rustlers have showed the skills for two banners from 2010-2012.

After 50 minutes of play it was Keyano Huskies with their seventh title  behind a convincing  5-0 decision.

“The guys put in a lot of work and it showed,” said Huskies coach Macky Singh. “They put in the hard work and made it count. We have done a lot of high-intensity stuff and a lot of fitness work during our training sessions.

“We are solid offensively and we tend to dominate and score goals and the opposition had to chase us. We also had a awesome goal keeper in Julio Meirelles.”

Joining Meirelles on the first team all-star unit was Neto Miguel.

“Being Brazlian, he (Migel) knows how to play the game but most of all he knows how to win. He has the experience and technical skills.”

Huskies teammate Eduardo Filho was honoured as ACAC Futsal  MVP: “He has great knowledge of the game and technically he is very good and sound. He played with a lot of goal scoring chances and he’s a big influence.”

Huskies outscored their opponents 23-7 going undefeated in five games during the three days.

Here is how the two teams advanced to the final

Keyano Huskies men defeated Lakeland College Rustlers 7-3 in their opener Friday .

In their second game of the day it was Keyano College Huskies 4 The Kings University Eagles 1.

Saturday the Huskies only had one game and it was a 7-2 dubbing of the SAIT Trojans.

In the first semi-final match Sunday morning against the host side the Huskies beat the Lethbridge Kodiaks 8-2.

The Keyano Huskies women qualified for the bronze medal game falling to SAIT Trojans 5-1.

“I am over the moon on how well our girls played,” said Singh. “I wasn’t expecting that they would finish so well but they did at the top of their group. We lost in the semi-finals in the last 30 seconds (3-2 The Kings University Eagles). In the bronze game a lot of our players were still shaken up a bit and a bit hesitant. It was a hard game for them. But to see their progression over the year...I am really proud of them.”

Huskies women’s other scores were: Keyano 4 Olds 4, Keyano 7 Medicine Hat 2, Keyano 4 The Kings University 2, Keyano 2 Ambrose 3.

Ambrose Lions would win the ACAC Women's futsal crown beating The Kings University Eagles 3-1
