Keyano College celebrates International Women's Day

Posted On Monday March 08, 2021

Keyano College is proud to recognize and celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) today (March 8) as a global day of recognition celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and girls, and raising awareness of the work left to be done. On this day, we take time to recognize women who inspire us all.

International Women’s Day gives us a chance to reflect on the progress made towards achieving gender equality while recognizing the determination of all who have played a part in advancing equality in their communities.

The first International Women's Day was observed on March 19, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. That day, more than one million women and men showed their support by participating in public events. Following that first observance, many countries were added and took part in celebrating this day.

The United Nations recognized 1975 as International Women's Year and began celebrating IWD on March 8, later adopting a resolution that officially recognized this date as International Women's Day.

On this day, Keyano College is excited to reflect on the importance of gender parity as we work towards promoting and welcoming that equality together.
