Keyano College welcomes first international students since the pandemic

Keyano has welcomed the latest class of international students to the college after an 18-month travel hiatus, due to the pandemic.

The latest government border updates mean that those traveling for the purpose of study are now permitted to enter Canada allowing both new and returning students to attend in-person classes.

More than 175 international students will be joining Keyano College, representing over 30 different countries, an increase of over 25% from the previous academic year. The College, in partnership with Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism are working to attract more international students into the region in a bid to create shared economic value for the region.

Sandra Efu, Director of Student Services and International Education, said, “We are thrilled to welcome these new students to Keyano and to Canada. We haven’t been able to meet incoming international students since the beginning of the pandemic, so this year, in partnership with Fort McMurray International airport, we’re hosting a welcome service and desk directly at the airport, ensuring that our new residents get the best possible start to their student experience.”

The partnership is continuing to work to attract more international students.
